Vendor not Responding

Kayla, on April 13, 2022 at 9:06 AM Posted in Planning 9 8
I need some advice…

I booked my beauty artist for my wedding (11/12/22) back in November. Loved her work, she was great at responding and we worked well together. Fast forward to March of 22.. I email to set up a hair trial. It takes 4 weeks to get a response back. In between that I had to text her multiple times to get a response. When I finally got a response from her she said her hairstylist dropped off and she couldn’t find someone else so she would Venmo me back my initial deposit of $242.50.. I even proposed an alternate option in which she can do her makeup services and I will find someone else do to the hair portion.. well that was almost 2 weeks ago. Since then I haven’t gotten a single response back and I have texted her, emailed her, and even went into Venmo and made the request for her so all she has to do is complete the transaction. I am not made of money and desperately need this deposit back so I can move forward and find a new makeup artist.. I don’t know what to do at this point and I have a new trial set up on 4/30.

Honestly, you have done all you can do. You'll just have to keep reaching out and hope she responds. I would say please actively look for a new hair and makeup artist! Maybe even someone on the more affordable side until you can get the deposit back.

I would send her another message to request the money back by a specified date (maybe either the end of the month, or give her a week from the day you send the message). Let her know that if you don't receive the full deposit back by that date, you will be looking into legal action, since you have it in writing that she promised to refund you. Try calling her too, but also text or email just so you have the paper trail to show how and when you tried to contact her. Definitely save the text that she sent where she promised you your deposit back. Good luck, I hope she returns your deposit soon!

I would find another vendor to use. That's completely unprofessional. Is she an independent contractor or part of a business? I would definitely tell her that you're looking into legal action if she doesn't give you your deposit back. I would also put negative review on all locations possible, since it would hurt her from scamming other people as well.

Iknow.. that’s exactly what I’m thinking! I did say in my email to her that the refund of my deposit needs to be completed by 4/15/22. I’m hoping she will respond.. I don’t wanna have to start calling her or messaging other people she works with to get a hold of her.

Right?! I’m beside myself because she clearly sucked me in and now I’m stuck! Once I get my deposit back I will 10000% be posting negative reviews to prevent others from booking her.

Good that you already set a deadline! I would send a reminder email/text to say that the 4/15/2022 deadline to return your deposit is approaching, and if you do not receive it by then, you will be looking into legal action. I also totally agree with Emily's suggestion - negative reviews everywhere!! Google, Yelp, WeddingWire, The Knot, Facebook, etc. That will help warn other brides about potential issues with that vendor.

Don’t text or email but actually call her. The same for any vendor. Talk to them on the phone. Not everyone responds to texts and emails promptly. It’s a big red flag if she drops all communication as soon as you sign a contract. Some vendors are super busy but that is not an excuse to avoid clients.

Agreed! I will be doing that if I don’t hear back.
