Vendor questions

Abi, on January 10, 2020 at 4:58 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

First off I am so happy I found this website, and second long post warning! It's helped so much. So I am a little frustrated right now. I am getting married on 10/10/2020, and have hired my videographer. I paid deposit have a signed contract from BOTH parties all that jazz, and mind you on the contract as you guys know it has the time frame we both have agreed to. Well I am apart of a bridal group on facebook for the metroplex and surrounding areas I'm in, I saw today a bride asking for a videographer on my same date ( Yes I know it's popular) and the same time frame, then I see my vendor commenting that they have that date available. Keep in mind they are a two person team, no assistants or help, and they both are doing my wedding. So I messaged them and in a nutshell they said that with the craziness of the holidays and having a pet recently pass away, and looking at the wrong month on their calendar, it didn't click with them that it was the same day, they reassured me they would not give my date away and they deleted the comment on the other bride's post. My fiance and I are paying for this out of our pocket with basically no help, so I am worried we are going to pay all this money and they not show up. So, My questions are this: 1. How should I handle this? Am I overacting? I have not been rude at all and am trying to be understanding. I am obviously new to this whole wedding planning stuff and don't know much about vendor issues like this, so any help is appreciated!

Sounds like you handled it really well! I would just followup with them on the 6 month with something saying "I'm just checking in with all of my vendors" that way you can double check that they are still good to go without seeming obnoxious. I would take this thing as a one time mistake.

I had to laugh. "We have this date available--" "NO YOU DON'T!" 😂 Joking aside though, that is kind of scary. I agree with Michaela that staying on them throughout the process is a good idea. Probably a one-time mistake, but it pays to just verify.

OMG so I had a similar thing happen (on a much smaller scale) with my photographer and our engagement shoot date! We scheduled it a few weeks ahead of time (like only 2-3 weeks before the shoot) and I saw a week before she posted on Instagram that she had mini sessions that day who cancelled and wanted to see if anyone wanted the slots DURING MY SESSION TIME! I did essentially the same thing as you, contacted her personally and she basically said that she didn’t realize she was double booking but we would have our shoot! You handled it well and I don’t think they’ll make the same mistake again, like PP said reach out a few months in advance and re confirm.

I mean, I respect the hustle but damn 🤔 one would hope they'd realize around the time they try and draw up a contract with somebody else, but I would definitely be on edge as well! You handled it very nicely, IMO. I think PP about checking back in is a good idea.

As long as you signed a contract I think you should be okay. It would be a real shame if they didn't show up BUT it would be even worse if they didn't show AND you couldn't get your money back. Are their reviews good? As long as they have a good reputation I'd say this was an honest mistake on their end and I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. Just follow up ahead of timeSmiley smile

I can see your concern but other than following up a few times, there really isn't anything else you can do unless they really don't show up.
