Vendor without review

Gina, on September 14, 2019 at 3:27 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Is it bad to use a vendor, specifically a photographer without a profile or reviews on weddingwire/the knot? She has reviews on Facebook, but not on wedding wire. Her photos look great and she sent me a full gallery with her package. Thoughts?

It's not always necessarily a bad thing that someone doesn't have a profile or any reviews, especially on any online wedding platforms. If there is anyway you can meet them and look over their physical portfolio or set up a skype call, that might ease your mind a little bit as well. They could be someone just starting out or just not know about any online wedding platforms to post their business. Good luck.

They could just be newly listed on here/the knot and people havent had a chance to review them
My venue didnt have a recent review (last one was like 2016!) And we still went with them, zero regrets!

I booked almost all of my vendors without reviews on the major wedding sites! I went with word of mouth and recommendations from friends and social media! No regrets yet!

She could be just starting out on WeddingWire, but if she has good reviews on Facebook I wouldn't worry about it. Vendors do have to pay to be on WeddingWire or TheKnot, so she might not have had enough business before to afford the monthly fee. If you like her work, I would go for it!

Not at all! If you like her work and feel she is trustworthy, go for it! I went with a photographer duo who isn’t on many of the major wedding websites and instead uses Instagram. On top of that, they had just partnered up and started their business. They had amazing photos and ended up being one of the best vendors we hired!

My photographer was actually surprised I had found him on here and said he had considered pulling his profile down but decided to just leave it since it was already here. So there's definitely other places where people look that aren't necessarily wedding specific websites to search vendors. My point is, you can't just base all your decisions just on reviews. You have to use your best judgement and follow your instinct. Maybe you can meet with her, see how you get along, and make a decision at that point. Good luck.

Definitely not a problem, as long as they have reviews and proof of work (that you like)! We found our photographer outside of WW too!

I also recommend Google searching the images she has on her page to be sure its not someone else's work. Unfortunately there are some scammers out there. But if that checks out I don't think it hurts to at least have a conversation with her

I don't think it's bad if you've seen her work and examples of it

I found my makeup artist on Instagram, she doesn’t have a profile on any wedding sites. Her work is fantastic, my trial was perfection, and she’s the most responsive of all my vendors. If there are reviews somewhere, and they look and act like a legitimate business, I wouldn’t stress too much over it. Read the contracts carefully and know what you’re getting into, but don’t let it make you crazy!
