Venice Italy vs local wedding

Carmen, on August 4, 2021 at 12:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
I always dreamed of a huge wedding. Lots
Of
Looking radiant. However, I am no longer 25 and I now have two kids w future husband which makes things a bit more challenging for my dream wedding. We got engaged and I immediately thought about doing a Venice Italy wedding. I figure that if I won’t get the big wedding I have always dreamed off, I might as well get a fairy tale wedding along the canals and a gondola ride. I am thinking 25 people max including my Two kids. I need advice from anyone that has done something similar as I know either way “local/destination” wedding would be stressful regardless what I end up doing. Helpppp your opinion is important Gracias

As you have said, wedding planning can be stressful regardless of whether it is a local wedding or destination wedding, however, be mindful that with a destination wedding like that you have described, be prepared to have realistic expectations with your vendors and their response times - different time zones and languages will make communicating more difficult (but of course very much possible).

If you have the funds for it, I would highly encourage you to consider hiring a local (and reputable) wedding planner who can assist in making the process more seamless. I say this having heard of a friend-of-a-friend who got married in Rome a few years ago and wound up with no photos because there had been some major miscommunication with the photographer.

In any event, good luck and happy planning Smiley smile

I agree: get a local planner who is used to dealing with overseas brides. And you will need to accept that you won't be able to control the entire process and that the final results may vary from what you have imagined. Also, make sure that all vendors speak English in case you need to communicate with them yourself. I honestly do not believe that one can organise a destination wedding without speaking the local language or a good planner. Also, you will need to figure out what formalities you need to take care of so that the marriage is considered legal in your country.

Hi ! I only know a wedding planner who works between USA and the south of France... But I would definitely contact a local wedding planner speaking English who would create a wedding for you with all the necessary details and respecting american traditions (weddings in Europe are really different ;-))

Find a travel agent! My cousin is a travel agent and coordinates destination weddings all of the time. I would definitely look into that route. They cost a little money, but they coordinate everything. They book your vendors and your guests airfare and hotel. Sometimes they even travel to your destination to manage everything with your guests, day, etc. so you don’t have to worry about it. Great investment.

Our wedding is in September 2022. There are wedding planners in Venice who work with out of town couples. You can have your dream wedding, we our not in our 20s either, 50s actually. You need to be clear on what would make it a dream wedding for you both and stick to it. I did try and plan everything myself initially, which was a little stressful, but all the research didn’t go to waste, as I already knew most of what I wanted before I gave in and hired a planner. We have our venues booked, but have not confirmed with the caterer yet, as we will be on the ground this October for tastings etc. You have lots of options for your number guests. I say all this to say - It’s doable.

Thanks for your reply. You don’t think is a waste of money if is only for a party of 20?
I just don’t know if 5k is worth to give to someone for such a small crowd. I speak fluent Spanish and some Italian as I love thee before so I really just need someone for my church ceremony. I have two small children too😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😪just a mess

Just a reminder that Venice is one of the most expensive cities in Italy so it will be a pricey trip for your guests.

One thing you may want to consider is whether or not the guests you have in mind could even make it. Venice is expensive and flights from the US to Europe can sometimes cost upwards of $1,000 per person depending on where they’re flying from and what time of year it is.

And, as someone who has often been in Venice for work ... It's CROWDED. Like, Shanghai underground kind of grounded. So maybe don't plan to go in the summer or during (European) school holidays and if you do decide to get a planner (you will need one), try to get them to figure out a day without any cruise ship arrivals, because that's when the city turns into a survival course.

I hear you! I struggled with the idea of getting a planner for 50 people too, so I was initially going to hire her as co-ordinator, but when the pandemic wasn’t abating, we needed someone on the ground to help make sure that our contracts addressed all our concerns. It isn’t costing 5k though - that it a lot! Having the right planner on the ground in Venice is worth it to us as it reduces the stress; but you also have option of contacting churches of your choice directly. You did not mention whether you would want a reception afterwards, as there are restaurants and palazzos, or gardens to choose from.

Thanks so much for all your comments. I am going to talk to a wedding planner coming up next week because everyone I have inquired throw a big number right away. Is crazy because is such a small wedding so it shouldn’t be much planning. I’m regards to a venue I am not sure as we are considering going out for the night those who want to go out to a place to dance or have a drink or hear a band play
