Oh and you owe us additional $240.00 for a bounced check and early-cancellation fee. I then ask him can I bring you guys a money order or cash for the deposit. He says no our policy states that if any method of payment doesn't process we have the right to cancel the contract at anytime. We have made several attempts to contact you to handle the matter in a timely fashion. I never received a call/text/email or anything from your company. I will even screenshot the contact call list to prove. Ma'am that's not necessary , but we would like to tell you the $240 is payable with cash only. I then asked so when did you guys know the check bounced ?

Using grammar incorrectly is annoying. Picking on someone repeatedly is disgusting.

Mrs. King, I'm guessing you've learned your lesson about balancing the checkbook. We've all bounced a check in our lives (whether we'll admit it or not) and it's a learning experience. It's unfortunate that it's happened to this degree but all you can do is try to come to an agreement with the venue. Also, I don't see a point in judging you for letting your grandma pay the venue deposit. She chose to do so and perhaps was insistent on it. I'm sure she felt good about it. Good luck.

I overdrew my account once in my life - I was a senior in high school and wanted a strawberry milk before a test. F'in nestle strawberry milk cost me like $40.00 after overdraft fees. Learned my lesson!

Good luck in finding a new venue!

ETA: I said I bounced a check, but I didn't I used my debit card so technically overdrew my account, but it wasn't for an actual check.

I have actually never bounced a check. Paid late on some things? yes, been there. Never bounced a check.

ETA: I have absolutely no idea why I even answered this thread for this one comment. lol It's not relevant but I'm not going to hide it.

I've bounced a couple and it was my fault -- not paying attention to my checkbook and my autodrafts and everything. Oh well. You live and learn!

I can also honestly say, like Janeen, that I've never bounced a check in my life. I am only commenting because I'm actually shocked to hear that bouncing a check is considered something everyone has done once. Whaaat?!

I over-drew on one of my accounts while in Mexico, but it's because I had wedding brain and moved money to the wrong account (I have 3).

I felt like the biggest asshole when I got home.

I have always had separate accounts for personal spending and for bills but I used to have this really bad habit or rounding down, not up so sometimes my math would be a little off. Now, even if a number is, say 231.18 I'll allot for 240. Screw that.

@Chantel -- I did but there was like, 18 BAMs that day. But here's the link:

I have never bounced a check. I did overdraft an account once in college which is the situation that taught me how to be more responsible with my cash monies.

I also didn't realize it was so common to bounce a check. I've never bounced a check, over drafted an account, paid a bill late, etc. I have had medical bills gone to collections, but they were bills that I had already paid and there was some giant mix-up between the hospital and my insurance. But I had already paid the bill within a couple of days I received it, so it wasn't actually a real problem. I have lived most of my life on a paycheck-to-paycheck life with saving a little each month for a house, so it's not like I was too wealthy to over draft. In 6th grade Home Economics class we got fake checkbooks and were taught to manage our registers correctly. It was awesome. (Yes, I'm a dork) I've centered my whole life around financial independence and I'm extremely thankful that I took it so seriously for someone so young.

Yeah, I'm lucky I never did anything like that in my youth because it would have severely impacted my job now.

I can admit I have bounced a few checks in my life. I made mistakes with my money. Thankfully, I am out of that hole and lucky to be rebuilding my credit. I am happy that I got my mistakes out when I was younger. Although now I hound my online banking to ensure my checks are cashed in a reasonable amount of time. I dislike seeing the extra money in my account when I know there is an outstanding check.

I'm sorry that this is happening and I sure your nerves are a wreck but you will find a better venue and everything will work out.

Here is were you hate my comment> If my grandmother, whom I know doesn't have the money, tried to pay or even went and wrote a check out I wouldn't have used it. I would have thanked her and told her that we would use it if we needed it during the process. I would not have used it and then been mad when it didn't clear. Also, if my venue was acting like this I wouldn't even want my wedding there. Customer service is rare these days but when you get it you never forget it. They don't have it, be happy that you dodged a bullet.

Gee, your venue has a policy and sticks to it. That's not a bullet; that's a professional policy that will actually assure that they'll actually be in business next year.
