Just Said Yes April 2022

Venting about a family decline

Melanie, on March 2, 2022 at 1:38 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 1
I’m just typing this out to vent about being a little sad but I’ll be honest a s slightly angry. So, my sister is due shortly before our April 23rd wedding. We knew she probably wouldn’t be able to make as baby due dates are just guesses and hers is April 16th. So, before invites went out I asked her about it and she said her and her husband would “play it by ear” how they would handle rsvp. Not a word since about it.

We sent invites out and got hers and her husbands back. They both declined. I’m just hurt that she didn’t call or text me about it before sending the rsvp back. I knew it would probably be this way in the back of head but I guess just sucks now that it’s reality she won’t be there or even my BIL.

I completely agree with you that there should have been a phone call prior to sending the RSVP. Sometimes people make assumptions that can lead to misunderstandings. Logically you know there is no way your sister can be there and your BIL needs to be with your sister. They probably assumed that you already knew and didn't think to verbalize that to you. Although I can only speak for myself, I can tell you that when you are pregnant it is a stressful time. Your body is not in your control, your due date is not generally under your control, and any demands placed on you during that time can feel overwhelming and even insensitive. Allow yourself to feel the disappointment and do your best to give your sister a break and support her during this time. Include her unofficially during the planning if she is receptive. Help her plan her nursery decor or whatever she needs. It may end up bringing you closer together. Good luck!
