Venue 1 or Venue 2: Feedback Appreciated

Kasey, on February 8, 2021 at 1:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

My fiancé and I are currently trying to decide on a venue. We have narrowed it down to two options and we are truly torn. I know it is ultimately our decision but would love some feedback and to see if there are things we might not be thinking about. Here is a pros/cons list for both venues:

Venue 1 Pros:

· Beautiful inside and outside (farmhouse style venue on a large field with a stream and mountain in the background)

· Suite on site for the bridal party to get ready and for me and my fiancé to stay in the night of the wedding (and separate room for groom and his groomsmen to get ready).

· We can get there as early as 8AM.

· Large field (for ceremony, cocktail hour and games) with fire pit

· Indoor and outdoor ceremony options

· Plenty of space inside

· Only wedding of the weekend.

Venue 1 Cons:

· 45 minutes to an hour away for most of our guests.

· Would have to figure out room blocks and transportation for guests.

· Not many options for an ‘after party’ (small town)

· Since this venue is further from us, we are unfamiliar with the catering options (they may be great, we just don’t know which is a bit of a risk).

· Reception must end at 10PM.

Venue 2 Pros:

· Conveniently located for most guests.

· Beautiful inside (refurbished barn with modern amenities and tons of fairy lights).

· We can get there as early as 10AM.

· Reception can go until midnight.

· Close to the city we live in so many options for ‘after party/bar hopping’.

· Familiar with their caterer (well known and highly recommended in the area)

Venue 2 Cons:

· Located in a tech park. So there are some office buildings and parking lots around (the ceremony site faces away from this and the background would be trees).

· Smaller space (our guest count would not be at their maximum limit but less space than venue 1).

· No space for the guys to get ready (there is a room for the girls to get ready).

Venue 1 is more expensive than venue 2. However, they do the day of coordination, while for venue 2, the coordination is done through the caterer. We would more than likely be spending more on the caterer for venue 2, which will make the total reception cost for both venues around the same.

If it were me, I'd pick Venue #1!

I like how there's more space, plus the extra field for guests to play games and mingle. The fact that there's a suite onsite that you can also stay at the night of your wedding is also a huge plus. Also, being the only wedding that weekend makes it to where you don't have to stress about cleaning/packing up quick/right away to get ready for another wedding.

As far as room blocks and transportation go, guests will typically expect to travel a little for a wedding, as well as booking a hotel room if they wish! Unless the crowd you expect to be at the 'after party' is dead set on it, and you are heavy partiers, I wouldn't worry too much about night life where the venue is located. A lot of couples think they'll have enough energy to part long after the reception ends, but end up being exhausted by the end of it lol.

Even with the caveat of wanting to party with your friends after the wedding (which I did, too—partially why we chose to get married at a hotel), I'd pick option 1. It's just so beautiful and unique!

What about booking a room block at a hotel with a cool bar? Honestly, it doesn't even need to be unique, the energy of your crowd will make it fun. You could even take the transportation with your guests over to the hotel, party and then arrange for a car service to return you to your venue suite. I don't think you need to worry about hopping to different spots—people will be happy to party and then be able to walk upstairs to their room.

I would pick venue 1! The con's on this list doesn't sound bad at all! 45 mins - 1 hr is not bad and getting a hotel/accommodations are actually fun when it's not located in town. It's like a mini vacation.

    I would pick venue #1.

i also picked a venue that is 45 minutes away from my home and further for some people but i just fell in love with the place the moment i walked on to the property and that was it for me. The big selling point for me is that they have a house on property so everyone can get ready and that is just invaluable to me if something goes wrong. I am already on site

I would go with whatever venue you feel that you want more the rest of it is details and 45 minutes to an hour for guests to travel for a wedding really is not a big deal

Venue 1, for sure! The photos are beautiful. Also, I like the idea of having all of the open space with mountains in the back. I looked at both venues websites and honestly had to force myself to stop looking at venue 1 lol. Venue 2 is just "meh", in my opinion.

I would pick option #1. It is beautiful and you have open space. My venue is about 30 minutes to an hour for my guest and that is depending on where they are coming from.
