Venue Capacity-look for another?

Sandy, on March 2, 2022 at 5:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hi everyone!

Initially when we picked our venue, we were thinking of having around 13 guests. That has changed to 26. I spoke with the venue coordinator today and they said given the fact that we will be having a DJ, cake table, dance floor, and the tables for guests, it may start to get really crowded. I want my guests to enjoy themselves and not be in a crowded space. I'm kind of heartbroken to be honest. My question is, should we look for another venue or just work with what with have?

Thanks!

Can a few of the tables be moved after dinner to accommodate the dance floor and cake table being brought in?

If your venue coordinator is telling you it “might” be tight, that means it will be really tight. Having space is a very important for enjoying your wedding. Feeling cramped is a horrible feeling and it will be all anyone thinks about. Think about the last time you flew coach class and had to bump elbows with your neighbor. I am exaggerating but you get the idea. Find a space where you can move and breathe. Plus spaces that are too small can get very stuffy and very loud.

Will all of your guests stay for dancing and stuff after dinner? If not, then you can certainly take away a table or two after dinner. If you think it will be super tight, either cut some guests or unfortunately find another spot. Good luck!

That's true... I didn't think about that. That could be a possibility!

I agree. I don't want the guests thinking all night how crowded it is... I want them to be able to enjoy themselves and have fun!

What is the capacity of your current venue? They are set and enforced for fire codes so if 26 is larger than what they allow, you will have to find a different venue.

The capacity of our current venue is 58.

In that case, stick with the venue you already have. The staff should be able to make the layout work since you are at half capacity and have more room to work with than a larger guest count.
