Venue Chairs

I love our venue, the only con is absolutely hate the chairs. It's such an eye sore in my opinion and I don't know if I'm a bridezilla or just overthinking this. They provide black folding plastic chairs. Our venue is by the river downtown in a glass building. We're going for a very clean-elegant look and it just does not go with the decorations. My options are to cover them, but I have not seen a chair cover that doesn't look tacky and I feel like it would bring attention to it. I can also put some tulle/bow to "hide" the chairs. Rent new chairs which would be around $700 (and find a little crazy to spend so much on chairs). Or just suck it up as-is and save the money. What would you guys do?

Attached are pictures of the chairs, venue, and inspiration for the table decoration. Thanks!

It would depend entirely on my finances and my budget. If you're where you should be as far as current savings objectives, and the cost of the wedding won't put you into debt or set you back from important savings goals, then go for it. Otherwise, I'd put it in the "nice to have but unreasonable expense" category. That said, I understand what you're saying. When it's a question of choosing between various amenities and extras, you have to decide what matters to you most.

Okay, I can definitely see your point, but like you, cannot justify tossing out $700 for different chairs. ANY kind of sash or bow is just going to bring attention to them, so I would try to maybe add a TEENSY touch of black to your table decor? Maybe black chargers, or small black menu (paper) holders??? I think that might make the chairs blend in? Or, just cover the seat and have that drape down, so only the black back is showing, Best of luck with whatever you decide.

We’ve been to weddings and events that had chairs similar to the black ones and no one was bothered by them. They were more comfortable to sit in than others, including the fancy Chiavari chairs. We’ve also been to weddings and vow renewals where the chairs were covered to fit an aesthetic that no one noticed after they sat down 5 minutes after entering the room. And in the case of spandex covers, guests removed them to be comfortable because they slid around and didn’t fit properly to the point of discomfort. Save your money and keep the chairs they provided and focus your attention and budget on what guests notice and remember: food and drinks and entertainment.

I think it depends on how much they bother you. If you are going to look at the room on your wedding day (or look back at your pictures five years from now) and be really unhappy with them, then it may be worth dropping the extra coin on chairs that better fit your aesthetic. If you are able to look past them, though, save that money. I like the previous suggestion of adding some black details in order to make the chairs blend in more and look like a purposeful choice. I definitely wouldn’t go the chair cover or tulle/bow route. Both are extremely dated and will just call attention to the issue.

I agree with the others that covers or bows will just draw attention to the chairs. Honestly in the thumbnail I thought they looked fine - the black matches the industrial windows and beams well - though I can see how with closer inspection they look more conference-y than wedding-y. As others also said, I'd add some black accents to the tables through napkins, flowers (like anemones - they have white petals with black centers), etc. to make the black chairs look more on purpose. I definitely couldn't tell you what the chairs looked like at any wedding I've been to and looking back at pictures of my own wedding, there aren't many photos with chairs in them to be pressed about how they looked.

Hello! I had another walk through today and it turns out they’re changing the chair on 2024. They’re giving us white chairs that can only be used for the ceremony and new black chairs for the reception. The new black chairs are 10 times better looking and don’t give office vibes lol. I’m just going to leave them as is because it doesn’t bother me. Thank you for everyone’s replies!Venue Chairs 3

Actually I really like those chairs. They are so much better than the ones I see in many venues.
