Hi everyone! So...COVID has foiled part of our wedding plans for 10/31/21 in NY. Our venue sold their building and they are essentially giving us 2 days to figure out if we want to go with their new outdoor tented wedding venue that is only 2 miles away from the original location with less than a year away..

Here's the pros:

-Dance floor

-Cocktail hour area

-Most likely no ugly carpet (I couldn't get over the hideous red and yellow swirl carpet they had in our reception room)

-It's now on a waterfront

-They are honoring the same rate for us

-No covid testing or proof of vaccination will be required for our guests since it'll be outside (that's both a pro & con I feel like)

-They have heaters

-They'll tent the ceremony area (which is also outside) if there's bad weather

-We can have 100% of our payments we've made so far back if we decide not to go with them

-We can go to their sister sites but i'm assuming that's only if our date is available (doubt it)

Cons:

-We have no idea what the venue looks like because it will be built this Summer, they told us to look at their sister sites to see what their tents look like (really nice)

-It's in the Fall 10/31 in New York, so it can get chilly and/or rain/freakishly snow (but there's heaters)

-Our wedding is less than a year away and there's no way we can find a place with our date and at an affordable budget

-We have until Friday to decide if we want to move forward with their new venue without seeing it, and it's first come first served..so seems like i'm basically then competing for our date?

The bridal party tent is 20x20 (is that even big?), the 'luxury restroom trailer' is 20x30 and the reception tent is 60x120

I've never been to a wedding with a tent, nor have I been to one outside in NY in the Fall. Any opinions? What would you do? Regardless we are getting married on 10/31

Yeah they definitely have heaters and are experienced with this type of stuff. A lot of my friends who have either been to similar ones or the sister sites with venues said they were very comfortable. So we shall see!

Thanks for the support!! They actually only have the Grandview sister site (possibly) available (someone has it on hold, it might be a cancellation) but it’s the tent only. I wonder why the tents are more expensive!

The tent at the Grandview has a gorgeous view and nice privacy! We almost went with it! The tent itself really was fancy feeling. I think in someways it was nicer than the ballroom!

I love tented weddings, and they can be absolutely beautiful. However it will be COLD on 10/31 in NYC. Think sweaters and scarves and jeans and boots, not open toed shoes or bare skin. Heaters can help a ton, but it will depend on how many there are. I live in NH (which is a fair bit colder than NYC) and we were able to enjoy outdoor meals on mild days into November with the help of outdoor heaters this fall.

I think a big factor should be how many guests you have. Also, if you can get a 100% refund, is it possible for you to look into other venues for the same date for comparison, and then make a quick decision? One perk of being outdoors is that outdoor venues will typically have fewer restrictions than indoor ones, if Covid is still very much a "thing" in October.

Fortunately we aren't in the city, we're in the suburbs an hour away from the city. The heaters will warm up everything and we have a guest list of about 185, the sides roll down. We've already looked up venues and with our date being 10/31/21 we cannot find something anywhere, and I refuse to wait another year to get married lol. I'm glad to know you've had good experiences with them though, thank you!

185 may feel a little tight in that space, but is doable if there aren't Covid spacing restrictions. I think if you've already looked at other options and none really exist without pushing the timeframe back significantly, go for it!

We eloped on our original day (May 2020), pushed our celebration back to June 2021, and are likely moving it again (hopefully Sept 2021). I totally get not wanting to wait any longer!
