Venue date - cancellations or willing changes

Sarah, on July 31, 2022 at 1:42 AM Posted in Planning 1 4
The venue that we would love to have our wedding at just called and said they have a late July cancellation for a Saturday. We are unfortunately in the medical field and won’t know where our next placement is until December, at which case we would request vacation for that time period in July. We would be fine to have our wedding in May or June as we would be still within the time frame of our current program (as it’s pre-July 1, the new program start date). So we are either banking on other cancelations or I have a crazy idea of seeing if any of the May date holders would be more interested in July. How frequent is it that dates become available? Was this July Saturday opening up a gift already? Do you think the venue would even let me contact the May event holders ?!

I think you are looking a gift horse in the mouth and should take the date given if it's your dream wedding. Finding dates in 2023 is extremely difficult with all of the postponements from Covid. It is not appropriate to ask other brides if they are willing to change their date as many will already have sent out save the dates, etc.

I definitely do not think the venue is going to allow you to contact other couples to switch dates with. It would be a horrible invasion of privacy and incredibly unprofessional of them to give out that information. You can ask if the venue wishes to offer the July date to the May or June couples, just as a courtesy to see if they would prefer the July date. But I would be fully prepared for them to not want to do that.

I don't know much about the medical field or placements, but are they generally flexible enough to give you the day off on your wedding day if you asked far enough in advance? I don't think the venue would give you the info for other couples, and I'd imagine anyone who booked for May or June did so for a reason and wouldn't likely want to change their days.

I would say this is your shot. Most brides once they have a venue they start assembling their team. Depending on how much they already have booked it would be impossible to move. I for example have all my vendors and I’m an October 2023 bride.
