Venue Doesn't Want Flowergirls to Throw Flowers

No Bridezilla Over Here, on December 11, 2016 at 7:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 28

I wanted tons of flower petals, but because our venue is a historic site and has to be preserved, they are strict on decorations. My two daughters are flower girls and I really don't know what to do. If I do decide for the girls to throw flowers anyway, the venue could deduct my security deposit. What other options could I use?

My venue asked that we not have real flowers. However, they said faux/fake flowers were fine as long as they were all cleaned up before we left. I would ask them about it! I opted to just make little bouquets for my FG because she was actually really jealous of my bouquet so it worked out in our favor in the end

Could you use silk petals? You could line the aisle with garland to add to the floral look as well.

Could you have them carry a flower ball like this? I like MrsSki's idea of lining the aisle with a floral garland on either side. Then you have the feel of the aisle being more decorated.

Just have them carry something instead; it's not worth losing your security over. Pomander balls are what I see the most

Have them carry something else. Flower balls, signs, a bible or a book of love poems, your rings, handfasting cords, sand for a sand ceremony - there are tons of options.

Yes, they don't real or fake petals, rice, confetti, any small particle. I do like the pomander idea and I will also look into the garland idea. Thanks

My flower girls are carrying little fresh bouquets that match mine. I don't like the idea of the Pomander balls because I could just picture them swinging that around by the ribbon while walking down the aisle, smacking each other as they go. They are my nieces and they LOVE fresh flowers, love to pick them and smell them and carry them around, so I think the small bouquets will work out better for us.

We can't have our flower girl throw flowers either. So we decided to have the flower girl carry flowers (white and red) one flower for each person that we have lost. Then each rose is individually tied and we will give them to the relative that is here (my dad gets a rose for his dad,etc.). It's just another idea!!!

We couldn't throw real petals either. My flower girl carried a lantern bouquet that was the same as my bridesmaids

My flower girl is handing flowers to the guests along the aisle because we can't have petals either

Very seldom do I see flower girls actually distributing flowers anymore. This restriction is quite common in historic and indoor venues. Unless they're slightly older kids, often times they get confused. Either way, you're just as married and they can still be part of it.

We are doing bubbles since we can't do flowers. Our flower girls actually came up with the idea

Pom balls, mini bouquets, bubbles, or even ribbon sticks would be cute! They could twirl/flutter them down the aisle! I attach an example of the ribbon sticks that I found at Oriental Trading, but they're an easy DIY. Good luck!

Girl yes, my venue also doesn't want anything that will get on the floor and become a safety hazard. So no flowers, real or fake, no bubbles, confetti, birdseed....

I've heard of FGs carrying a 'kissing ball' when they aren't allowed to toss flowers. You can also look into decorating with flowers that have cascading stems if you still want the look of flowers/petals everywhere.

I know it's super cliche, but my daughter (who will be 1 1/2 by then) will probably carry a sign that says "Daddy, are you ready? Here comes Mommy!"

Have them carry a small bouquet or flower ball. You can make an aisle runner with silk petals on it. It can just be rolled up no loose petals and you have the look of flower petals without loosing your deposit! Here's the one I'm working on.

Are fake flower petals an option? They may be a pain to pick up, but I don't see them doing any kind of major damage.
