Venue Fail

Bo Miller, on October 7, 2020 at 10:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 27

So a mini rant again lol. Since no one else really understands the struggle. We had booked a venue and paid the retainer (luckily it wasn't much) and had started the search for the rest of our vendor team. Well the venue reached out to us 2 days ago and said that they have decided that they are going to start requiring brides to use wedding planners/DOC (was NOT in the original contract) and here is a revised contract for us to sign and we have 60 days to provide them the name of our wedding planner/DOC. Well I spent a few days researching available DOC in the area and it just doesn't fit into our budget at all. So the venue gave us our retainer back. Basically we are back at square one. I am so frustrated and just over it. I was so happy to finally have found a venue that accepts us and semi-fits the vibe (we did have to give up some of what we wanted) and now we have to start all over.

If you made it this far thank you for listening lol I just needed to vent to someone who would understand.

I forgot to add the possible positive. I did find this venue that has this beautiful outdoor location. We go to tour next weekend. So fingers crossed!

Nah a contract change like that requiring you to spend more money isn't your problem. They would have to.

Well because it took us so long to find a venue and that one was already an hour away we wanted to try and keep it, but when that wasn't an option we asked for the money back and they gave it back with no issue. This is my first time ever doing an event or handling contracts so I am still learning lol!

Everything happens for a reason. You wont see it now, but it will come together at the end. Good luck!

They wanted someone licensed and that was going to cost an extra 1-2K we didn't plan for and couldn't fit into our budget.

This is super annoying an unprofessional. A DOC could help reduce a lot of stress for you but that should be your decision especially after entering a contract with them, Very unprofessional. Look at it this way, you have more than enough time to find something. We did not start planning till December 2019 for our November 2020 wedding and thanks to covid we have had to basically plan two weddings with all the changes.

You got this!! Also if they were willing to do this to you know imagine how they might treat you and your bride on the day of your wedding!. Keep you spirits up!!

That is super sketchy and unprofessional! Make sure you leave a review for future couples! There is no reason to require a planner or DOC. I've never even heard of that as a requirement. Plus if they have a policy change like this maybe they should have only done it with couples signing contracts after that date.

Oh honey we are all still learning. I knew nothing when I first started planning ha ha. Now that my friend is engaged I told her she has a free wedding planner with me...well the cost of coffee and a donut ha ha. It is a constant learning process. Sigh...

    UGH!
if they're going to require it, they should provide it as part of their services!
