Venue Help!

Kellie, on October 18, 2019 at 9:08 AM Posted in New Jersey Planning 1 11

Hey Everyone!
My fiance and I are looking to have our wedding in the fall of 2021. We are located in Northern NJ, but are willing to travel about 2 hours away to a venue. A lot places we have looked into are in budget ($100-$130/pp excluding taxes and gratuity), but we don't meet the minimum or we meet the minimum and they are WAY out of budget. We are only having 115-125 people max and most places require 150. Any recommendations? I am not a bride who likes big ballrooms and chandeliers. I like rustic (no barns), chic, open and airy. Preferably would like an out door place. To give you an idea: Bear Brook Valley, Ryland Inn, The Farm House at Ashford Estate, and the Stone House at Sterling Ridge. I am open to having a wedding and reception at different location, but would love one spot. I appreciate any feedback! Thank you.

My husband is from Northern New Jersey and I am from Pennsylvania so we got married in Scranton, PA. When we were looking for a venue we looked in Easton, Bethlehem, and Scranton. Pennsylvania is generally cheaper than New Jersey I love the ballroom look though. We got married at the Radisson. The only requirement they have is $7,000 on food and drink, but again it was all indoors and more of a ballroom. We also looked the Hanover Grand Ballroom. They had an outdoor space for the ceremony, but the reception was in a ballroom. We also looked at the Bank Street Annex in Easton. That wasn't really a ballroom. It was more Victorian like. From what I recall near of them were $100-130 a person.

Riverview Country Club looks kind of similar to what you said you like. Unfortunately, they don't list their pricing online. I will say it is generally cheaper to have a buffet than plated which is what we choose to do.

I did some more research and found some other places that looked similar.

    Sinead,

Trust me, I have covered anything in a two hour radius of where I live in NJ. There are only a select that are in budget and we meet the minimums, but they aren't what I am looking for. Thank you setting up the search though!

    Hey!

Did you check out Bear Brook's sister venue, Rock Island Lake Club? I'm getting married there on a Sunday because their minimum is 125 people. (You also will have to factor in that you usually have to pay for the photographers meal and etc.) If you marry during months that are "off season" the price per plate is cheaper. I think we're spending $150 per plate right now but you might be able to have it go down. (I'm getting married in May.) Their venue has an elegant, rustic feel. (There is a chandelier hanging on the ceiling though.) I think it's worth checking out.

Also, this may be a bit far for you--but there was a place I thought was cute in Garrison, NY called Highlands Country Club. I remember the prices being very, very reasonable...to the point where it was almost like, what's the catch? lol. The photos on Wedding Wire don't really give the real feel. It's rustic and kind of has like an old, historical feel.

I’m getting married at Smoke Rise Village Inn in Kinnelon NJ. They’re in your budget and Jordana has been very accommodating and warm. She’s very bride first friendly.

North Jersey has a few vineyards that are gorgeous and affordable with low "minimums" for attendance!

The Madison Hotel in Morristown NJ was really great at accommodating us when it came to our guest count. They’ll work with you! Our guest count is 100 which is way below the minimum at some of these wedding venues which were not flexible with us.

Hey Crystal, could you share the price per plate at The Smokerise Inn? They don't offer a buffet option right?

I don't recall a buffet option, but I'm sure they would. I went to a repass there and they had it. The standard dinner reception was $130 a person with an open bar included. I have a nightshade allergy and they have no problem accommodating for it.

Like I mentioned before, Jordana is phenomenal. When I went to the repass, she didn't know I was going to be at the event. She was surprised but in a warm welcoming way. The food was also great, so I'm 100% confident in my choice. Staffing was ultra attentive too. Hope that helps.
