Venue just canceled on us....6 months from our wedding

Alyssa, on May 19, 2021 at 4:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Words cannot describe how frustrated I am. We just found out our venue sold to someone else and the new owners will not be reopening this year because they will be renovating. So we either have to get refunded our deposit and find a new place when our wedding date is less than 6 months away, or postpone until 2022 and wait to see what the new owners say. So far this wedding has been disaster after disaster. Obviously we have the same hiccups as everyone else with 2 postponements due to COVID, but we also had to find a new DJ and new videographer, I lost my mom shortly after we got engaged and booked all our vendors, and then lost our beloved fur baby a few months later. I was really not excited about the wedding for the longest time, but was finally getting there this past week with the help of some friends. But now to have to find a venue?!?! It just feels like blow after blow and I wonder if we will ever get to our dream day.

Oh gosh, I am so sorry! That's really rough. How comfortable are you with postponing? Neither option is ideal, but maybe sit down with your fiance and figure out which is the better of two options?

Oh hun, I'm so sorry for all you're going through. The best I can offer is some encouragement: My wedding was planned and executed in a total of about 3.5 months, so just switching out the venue 6 months out is totally do-able. Our engagement was only 6 months and I started working on getting everything set up pretty much right then. But then a new shut down order happened in my area and planning was put on hold because we couldn't tour any venues. We finally were able to tour and book our venue 3.5 months before our wedding, so that's when the planning really started.

It sounds like you still have all your vendors - it's just the venue that's now missing? (Correct me if I'm wrong here...) I would think that just finding a new venue for your current date would be the easiest route. Especially if you already have most of your things planned, 6 months is plenty of time. Postponing again is definitely an option, but it sounds like you're over that and at this point just want to be able to have your day. Also, because so many weddings have been postponed, dates in 2022 are already pretty well booked just about everywhere you look.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, though I do wish I could do more to help.

Hi Alyssa, girl I have been there!! You are not alone. I agree with Melody, there is time to get a new venue. For what it’s worth, our ceremony location had to be changed 10 days before our wedding. Literally 10 days. I went temporarily insane. Invitations were out, family took off work to come, I had no choice but to find a solution that me and my now husband would love with no time and no easy options. Impossible.
Well, I found a tented rooftop at the hotel connected to our reception location. It was available, tented and convenient. Certainly not our first pick but met with our amazing florist on site and designed our own tropical garden up there for the ceremony. It’s been 9 months and we still can’t believe we pulled it off! Loved it too.
I have complete faith you can do this. No one is more creative, flexible and strong then us covid brides ❤️❤️❤️

Oh my goodness - I'm so sorry you're dealing with this Alyssa!! ❤️

I'd try to see if you can find a new venue so you aren't continuing to push this wedding off for forever, but it's totally up to you and whatever works best for you guys as a couple!

Sending you all of the virtual love and support!!

I'm so sorry to hear this! Something very similar happened to me actually (venue cancelled on us 2 months ago for our September 2021 wedding) and we just ended up booking a different venue because we already had some family members book flights, etc. in anticipation of the wedding. You can totally find a new one with 6 months to go, if that's what you want to do--trust me, I just did it and my wedding date falls over Labor Day weekend so it's a very popular wedding time to begin with!!

Sending you good vibes, whatever you end up wanting to do! And I'm sorry for the loss of your poor fur baby Smiley heart Smiley heart
