Venue reviews

Samantha, on November 30, 2019 at 4:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

I'm down to my top two venue locations but I can't find any recent reviews about either location. What I can find are from previous caterers for the one and about the restaurant for the other. Does anyone know where I can find more or if it's acceptable to ask for references?

I think it's acceptable to ask for references if you cannot find any reviews online. You want to make sure that your venue has a good standing with their previous clients. When we went to tour the venue my FH and I decided on, we asked about previous events and any difficulties they had and the coordinator at the venue showed us photos of previous weddings held there.

I treated our venue search like a job interview. If you haven't been in to tour, I would ask to go tour and ask a bunch of questions. If you have already toured, I'd ask to meet with them again and ask your questions. When my FH and I went to tour our venue for the first time I had 2 pages of questions to ask the coordinator there. There was space for me to write responses so there weren't as many as it sounds. I had around 15-20 questions and asked everything I could think of.

Welcome to the WeddingWire community, Samantha!

Have you checked if both venues are listed on the WeddingWire venue directory? If so, there may be some listed there.

If you would like to tell me the name of both venues I can check it out for you Smiley smile

I saw a few reviews on here and that's what made it tough is they ranked the same. The Stone Barn in Kennett and The High Point in Devon. I've asked a few photographers I'm interviewing what they have thought of the venue and the feel of the party but I haven't spoken to any yet that have done weddings at either location. I asked both for a list of vendors they recommend to speak with those vendors and have read a few reviews on the caterers themselves. But everything seems like a tie.

I had almost two pages of questions before we went to the venues. I narrowed it down to 10 and did a first round of visits to get it down to 6. I then asked for proposals and tried to picture the flow of the day, use of space and if it felt right getting married in each place to get it down to 4. My parents and I revisited them and all of us were tied with the final two. We liked this aspect of this venue but other aspects of the other. By the time we were done we wanted to really mush the two places into one. Reading the few reviews I could find didn't really help break the tie.

It sounds like you’re really torn between the two. I think it’s a great idea to ask for a list of vendors to speak with. I hope you can get all the information you're looking for to make a decision Smiley smile
