Venue Selections

We booked the second venue we looked at. We pretty much agreed right away, if we didn’t have a budget we would have gone with the first venue, but we also loved the one we chose.

We actually toured zero! Since we are planning a destination wedding, we couldn’t tour. So we’ve relied completely on photos of the venue and reviews. I will say I probably researched and reached out to at least 30 places before finding the one we chose. It was more of a logical choice than an overwhelming “feeling”. I had a checklist of wants and needs for a venue and this was the only one that checked every single box, and (luckily!) was within our budget. I would highly suggest making a list with 2 columns - “must haves” and “wants” - and making copies of it to take to each venue you tour. Put the name of the venue you are touring at the top of the page, and as you walk through put a little checkmark next to every want and need it has. The list will ensure you don’t forget to look for something, and will also keep you grounded in your assessments/decision making by providing very easy side-by-side comparisons of each venue. You might also want to include a list of questions you have for them. It’s so easy to get swept up in the moment and forget everything you needed to ask.

Based on our experience just looking from pictures we would be fairly disappointed if we had gone with the one we thought we were really going to like, but I'm glad you were able to find a venue that was perfect for your own special day. I will keep the checklist and questions in mind as we continue to look at other options.

We toured 5 and booked #4. I looked at a lot more online, but we decided on checking out those 5. We somewhat considered #3, but #4 was the one. We saw 4 and 5 the same day. We probably would've skipped it if we hadn't already made the appointment.

For our DW, we toured 12 venues in 4 days. When we saw our venue, it was instant love 😍.


For our local reception, we were going to visit 5 venues in 1 day but when we got to the area early, we drove around and stumbled upon the venue we chose. It was meant to be.

Officially 4, though we knew after the 2nd one that it was the one we wanted, and the 4th we went to only because FIL had a "connection". (....That connection seriously mislead FIL, and MIL was less than pleased.)

But I'd also done a lot of research before I even decided which ones I wanted to look at.

We looked at four venues total in-person (researched a lot more online), but knew once we saw the third one that it was the right venue for us.

We looked at about three. We knew that none of them were right and we initially just settled with one. Luckily, I was able to cancel and receive deposit back. My dream venues are all too expensive.

We toured one, and fell in love!

It was between our venue and another one that we liked a lot, but we feel in love as soon as we pulled into the driveway.

We only toured 2, but I had inquired about many online and had other tours set up. I was super set on the date I wanted and didn’t bother with venues that didn’t have it available. The venue we booked was in an area further away that FH didn’t want but I convinced him to just go look. When we stepped on the property we both just knew, and I could see his face light up, that it was the place. They ended up not having the date I wanted available but the place was so perfect for what we want that we were both willing to compromise.

We toured 2 and booked the second one. We fell in love with everything about our venue! We did have some other venues in mind to tour, but we cancelled once we decided on the 2nd one.

So far one of us really likes it and the other is meh....when we both liked what we saw initially online. I'm sorry your dream venue was too expensive but I'm glad you were at least able to get your deposit back!
