Yes they will not let us postpone unless the state shuts down again!

That would be really disappointing if they did. Venues should be waiving all postponement and cancellation penalties until this is over. Ours has let us postpone twice no problem, I’m sorry if yours is being difficult!

My planner told us she has had this happen to all of her brides this year, all at expensive venues. They have said that if the wedding can happen, they can't refund the deposit per the contract. I guess they just don't want to lose the revenue when everyone is cancelling. She said one bride lost $50,000 all told!

I would check your contract to see what the cancellation policy is! Now that things are opening up and restrictions are being lifted and numbers are *kind of* decreasing depending where you live I think venues are essentially running as normal. They've already lost a lot of revenue from the earlier part of wedding season, graduation parties, etc.

I spoke with my coordinator (in NY) about 2 months ago. She firmly stated she was against us postponing. Direct quote: "We wouldn't want to have you postpone, then when your original date comes up find out that we could have had your event". Left a pretty sour taste in my mouth, and coupled with her also telling us it'd be treated as a "new booking", which would mean a new deposit and possibly other fees. We booked with them in Feb 2019. Not happy about that....but we're on track for early September so here's to hoping.... I had someone tell me that their venue in California wanted them to pay $10,000 to postpone!
