Venues roof collapsed

Sam, on February 15, 2021 at 5:51 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4
Ladies, I am so overwhelmed right now. I have been engaged for 2 years and I am on my 3rd wedding date due to covid (09-17-21). Were based in the Chicago area.

Today, the roof of my venue collapsed destroying 75% of the building. Luckily no one was hurt. My venue doesn’t know what the future holds. It’s not looking good.
Has anyone else had this much bad luck? The idea of finding a new venue, during covid when I didn’t even know if my September date would work is overwhelming. At one point do we just elope in Vegas?

Oh my goodness - that's terrible!!

Have you been in touch with anyone at the venue? I'm sure they're stressed beyond belief - but I also wonder what dates they've at least initially blocked off for repairs.

Have you sent availability feelers out to any other venues? Having to change plans again sounds terrible, but with this new development I'd see what all your options are!

Our poor venue owners are so stressed. I found videos online, only 1 wall was left standing Smiley sad
They said they’ll be in touch soon with options. I’ve heard from 3 other venues today and the dates are soo limited now. I found 1 place that has a Sunday and 1 place that has 1 Friday left.
    I’m tired.

We had a venue in my town burn down a few years ago Smiley sad a lot of the other venues in town stepped up to offer assistance to the affected brides. As covid goes on (re)building timelines are definitely hard.

Maybe see if you can talk a venue into penciling you in, or offering you a refundable deposit for a date given the situation. Ultimately it would be up to their good will, and a lot of venues probably won't do that. Hopefully your venue can get some idea of how long the repairs will take and you'll be in the clear. But if the whole building is mostly ruined I would bet on having that space in time.

I wouldn't necessarily say postpone again, but look into alternate venues for sure.

Wow I’m so sorry. I wouldnt postpone or decide on Vegas just yet, you have time until September and can probably find a venue who had someone postpone or cancel. I just found a country club with an open date in April, so two months in advance. Or maybe your current venue has an outside they will be using? Especially if youve already put down a ton of money with them
