Very Small & Intimate Wedding - Decor Ideas Needed!

abbie, on July 25, 2017 at 7:14 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 17

Hi everyone... I could use some help!

I am getting married on September 17th 2017 on the beach in Florida. I am English, just recently moved to Toronto, Canada. Moving abroad and planning a wedding all at once has been crazy to say the least!!

I have only 11 guests attending our wedding, it was always our dream to have a very personal ceremony.

Our reception is at our hotel in an ocean view room that's medium sized. The plan is to have one rectangular table and then the usual cake and guestbook table. We couldn't justify a DJ just for 13 of us - we decided to do an iPod playlist instead so we will have a table with speakers on also.

I guess I'm just looking for advice of how I can make our reception pretty. Is it worth doing my own centerpieces and décor for the tables since its only one table?

Is anybody else having a small wedding?

I'd literally LOVE to hear from anyone having a smaller wedding.

Thanks!

Something like this would work and would be very easy to put together https://www.pinterest.com/pin/206813807867016127/

Is the hotel room a normal room with a bed or an empty, smaller meeting room? How do you plan to use the rectangular table? Will you be serving refreshments or using the room only for the ceremony and going out to eat?

Unless you have a fabulous view, you could close the drapes and dim the lights for a more romantic mood. You can pin a garland or bunting to the drapes or make a ribbon backdrop.

Or, you can ask the hotel for the use of one of the baggage carts. Use it as a base for an arch. It can be faux greenery and flowers.

    Use flameless candles for lighting.

If you are serving a seated dinner in the room, go all out on the romantic quotient with a gauzy tablecloth.

@Muriel - I guess I didn't make that clear sorry! Our ceremony is actually on the beach. We're then going up to the reception which is an actual reception room in our hotel.

There's a bar in the room and a cocktail hour whilst we finish up with photos. Then the meal and 2 hours open bar with music.

The reason for the rectangular table is that we have too many for 1 round and 2 round would be awkward I feel. So its 1 rectangular table in front of a huge window that overlooks the beach/ocean.

There will be a rectangle guestbook table - we are doing a football shirt for people to sign (we're sports people lol) and I'll just put some pictures of us and small flowers I guess.

    Round cake table as normal.

There's a small dancefloor and we will have a rectangular table against the wall in front of it with our speakers. Not sure how to decorate that.

Muriel. thank you so much! The baggage cart idea is genius and the table is beautiful too - I like the idea of the flowers all the way down the middle rather than just one centerpiece.

Sounds like you will have a beautiful view. Keep it simple but beach? A lot of summer stuff like shells are on sale a Michaels right now for end of season. Several small vases of flowers would be nice and intimate. Do you have pics of the room?

I would not do a guestbook because it's 11 guests. I would decor the cake table with nice linens and flowers. I would do maybe 2 table pieces for table where you all dine. And I would not really worry about much else. With 11 people seems like you will all be able to sit on one long table for the meal and really enjoy the night.

Thank you! I didn't know you could just buy shells at Michaels. Soo helpful! I agree on the not worrying about much else but it's hard lol.

I had a small 41 person wedding in Sarasota, Lido Beach Florida in an ocean view room as well. I had centerpieces. I loved the centerpiece touch. Where is your wedding?

Just because there is a beach view doesn't mean that there has to be sand, shells, starfish, anchors. I think since its such a small party, making it really elegant would be affordable. I love the photos that @Muriel posted.. good jumping off point for the tables

We are doing a small wedding at the outer banks. we had originally started with about 50 but have it down to 30 now. we are doing crystal water pitchers with etched fish on the tables with white and pink roses and orchids. like my avatar. then the napkins will be a teal and aqua color. We will have tiki torches that have blue and aqua stones in them outside and will be using sea grass as accents on things with rope. the color it self lends itself to the beach given our location so we are not doing the typical sea shells or star fish.
