Victorian gothic theme

Heather, on January 18, 2018 at 11:26 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8
Hi! My fiancee and I are getting married in spring 2019 and I am looking for ideas for decor!, that will be not so traditional for the spring! The only colors we have picked so far are a deep plum or eggplant and black. Think elegant black lace accents (NOT dress!), Victorian style frames for table numbers and the menu etc. I have no other colors to add just yet, I think that will be determined by the flowers but I am thinking blush or cream will be somewhere in there, and maybe another color? Anyway, the venue I THINK we are going to get married at offers 3 separate centerpiece options that you can doll up and make your own. You can choose from: 3 different height cylinder candle holders that hold floating candles, a lotus bowl, or a hurricane. What ideas do you have that go with my theme that wouldn't be crazy expensive to make the centerpieces more our style? Thank you!

I love this idea! i would search on Offbeat Bride, they profile unique real world weddings all the time and i've seen a few that fit with your vibe.

I know these arent your colors, but i google searched and these came up. maybe they'll give you some inspo? i think the plum and black combo would go good with a silver grey or burgundy, if you're looking to add another color.

I love the idea of eggplant--maybe use lighter shades of purpley greys throughout your decor? I like the branches someone posted, but I'd spraypaint them a nice grey.

Consider also decorating your tables with the type of tableware that would look good with vintage.

Our caterer has a set of vintage plates that we can rent.

I love the idea! I’m pulling some of the Gothic ideas for my own wedding since it’ll be on Halloween. I absolutely adore the centerpieces where they just simply spray paint sticks black (sometimes adding glitter.) and arrange them in a vase or sometimes a pot to look like a dead tree. Black candlesticks and wine glasses that have been overturned with flowers underneath seem to be popular. You could probably do the stick thing with the floating candles. Just make sure they are short enough to fit. One of the thing I’m making right now basically has black lace around a plain clear candle holder. They have examples on Pinterest. I’m also adding a few lanterns to my tables, as I have quite a few.

Thank you all so much! I have been all over Pinterest, and have so many ideas ad have a very full board. I am going to take a look at offbeat bride! That seems to be a popular site. I know it will all come together beautifully but with all the ideas out there, it becomes overwhelming! I appreciate all the help!

    Definitely search Offbeat Bride.

I am also going with a Victorian theme as our wedding and reception are being held in a Victorian Mansion. A couple of things that we are looking at:

Flowers were a form of communication in Victorian England. Do some research on the language of flowers and what you may want them to say. The majority of people were versed in what each flower meant so they would send flowers with very particular meanings. This is how I am determining my bouquet.

The one thing FH is doing is going with a Victorian style suit - a mourning suit (which are pretty awesome) http://www.dobell.com/packages/wedding/gold/

Something FH suggested, and I am on the fence about, was to have a Victorian or Steampunk themed photobooth. You could have all the accouterments be Steam Punk or Victorian to make it a little different and fun.
