Video Game Wedding???

L&D. Duff, on March 1, 2016 at 11:31 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 25

My FH and I meet by playing and chatting about online Video Game, so we thought it would be a great theme for our wedding. Our familys are all for the idea and are in love with it but i want to know from someone that done this before..... How to do this with out going over the the top...

I did some art work that I thought would work well for this but i would also like someone point of view on that too..... that not a friend or family..

Personally I love video games (hell it's my job) however I would do accents of this theme through cake toppers, centerpieces, etc. so people can see its your theme without it being too much. Good luck!

I don't understand adults playing video games, but that's not the question here.

Maybe cake topper with a nod to your favorite game, maybe some type of reception music from one of the games. You are on the right path as long as you don't go overboard.

Either way as a non gamer, I would have no idea what any of it meant.

My FH works in the videogame industry and is a lifelong gamer. I am a more casual fan but we will probably have a few touches here and there. Our processional is a song from Undertale.

    Heyoooooooo!

@Kathryn, for some its an escape from adulthood; a chance to check out and relax(ish) in another reality for a short while. For others, it's a way of life. Lol!

@OP, definitely stick with subtle touches. As you may have surmised, we're having a Zelda based wedding, but I still want it to be a wedding, not a 6 year olds birthday party. So what we've definitely decided on so far is milk bottles for centerpieces with LonLon Ranch stickers and flowers sticking out of the top. FH wants the table number signs to have pictures of locations in Hyrule and for escort cards to have pictures or be in the shape of Master Swords. I'm good on the table numbers, not so sure about the cards.

You just have to pick and choose what videogame features are most important to you and stay classy with it all. Lol!

@Kathryn: Adults are allowed to have fun too. And I seriously doubt anyone would want little kids to play stuff like Alien Isolation or the Evil Within hahaha.

I would go with cake toppers, cute favors if you can, and then maybe placing cards/setting arrangements by favorite games. Music is good too

Nongamer but I love your artwork and would probably incorporate it as the invitation design...other than that, my suggestions are the same as others - cake toppers, table numbers, etc.

I've always joked with my FH about this subject. Gaming plays a huge part of our lives. He is CEO of communications for a organization for COD and Halo. I badly wanted to secretly incorporate something with gaming into our wedding just to see his face because it is so important to him. I found a few ideas on pinterest and etsy. I found this cake topper and also a cake idea. To have the front of the cake look like a wedding cake and the back it was all gaming stuff. I really liked it, it wasn't to much but it was there. I also found custom boutonnieres with a video game controller I thought would be nice. I think if you just incorporate something here and there it won't be over the top. I think it's a great idea! If you need any help finding stuff let me know!

I've seen xbox cakes too! I definitely agree with subtle touches. Dammit I wish I'd thought of this before I got sold on winter/vintage!

We're doing subtle touches of different things like the Avengers and I want to incorporate Zelda and Star Wars in there somewhere (though I'm very tempted to have a Pokemon or Star Wars themed bouquet lol). I've seen really nice bedazzled belts that have subtle nods to different geekdoms! I hate that I don't have any photos though lol.

@Sarah- That cake topper is literally my Mom's life lol. My Dad plays video games to relax from work (he works typically from 4am - 6 pm and gets up at 3 am for the drive).

Thank you for the ideas but i was wondering if it would be to much to make a save the date and invitation to a paper game controller, paper handheld system or paper Ipod...

My Maid of Honor made this to give me an idea....

We're having a video game wedding, centered around Nintendo (Legend of Zelda and Mario in particular). We're sticking with subtle references to keep it looking like a wedding. For example, our table numbers will be silhouettes of Mario and Zelda characters.

Your artwork is beautiful, and would be amazing incorporated into your stationery.

That's gorgeous! As you plan, if you need music ideas check out Lindsey Stirling, Taylor Davis, and Critical Hit.

I don't think the idea of a game themed save the date is bad. I am not sure about the one you attached though. It looks really juvenile, like a 4th grade birthday party.

What about creating a poster or game case that incorporates your design and is a bit more subtle?

@Beth I think I will take a stab at that idea thanks for the point of view......

With all the idea and support it feels refreash to see that I'm not going to be to much with some of the stuff i'm planning.
