princess buttercups, on January 25, 2010 at 12:19 PM Posted in Planning 1 30

Hi everyone. Im interested in having a video of some pictures played along with music for the reception. But how do i go about this. Do you know who puts this together? The photographer or the DJ?

Thanks!!!

If you have the budget, you can have the videographer put it together. However, it's really easy to do it yourself. Just scan the pics that you want to use, and put them into powerpoint. Then just add music.

Yeah same with analy, our videographer is doing it at no extra cost for us during the cocktail hour but if you want to DIY, it is very easy to work with programs like powerpoint with your own scanned pictures.

Our DJ offers this.. and he takes some pictures and adds to it throughout the night and he'll work with your photographer (if the photographer wants to) to get pictures from him too and start throwing those up as well.

So are you using couple pictures only? or baby pictures to adulthood until you met your significant other.

I was thinking of one because I am a photo freak, my nickname is Papapparatzi.

I thought it would cost extra, but now that I can see you can do it yourself...

I am doing one. Had it all done with music and such in a power point presentation. Well found out venue needs it in a DVD format if I am going to use their big screen TV. So I asked my photographer if he could. Check with venue how it needs to be formated. If your going to use your computer scan pic and start your powerpoint presentation. Play with it. I loved doing mine.

Here's a simple example of one.

You can go more complex with this one, but to me it works best with video clips like formals etc instead of static pics.

But be advised, these are considered production pieces as they take more skill to create and modify.

Maybe they have one at the restaurant or hotel you could use/rent? My photographer threw in that extra into the package for free. maybe one of your friends has a projector and screen?

We are not doing the video montage for one reason and one reason only. Every wedding I've ever been too that had one, I think I saw MAYBE 30 seconds of it, I was too busy eating, talking, dancing, socializing etc to actually watch watch the whole thing. And I've noticed that is the average time most people pay attention to it. For me it's not worth the time I would spend picking the pictures I wanted in it out, for a whole 30 seconds of someones time.

Usually the videographer for the growing up type montage, the type I do are the ones of the photographs I have already taken on the wedding day and I include that at no charge.

This is a great idea and you might consider showing the montage during the rehearsal dinner instead since it is usually less hectic and eventful than the reception.

We do this for a lot of our couples, but a common way they show the montage is on a smaller TV screen, off to the corner (maybe at the bar) and it loops, so people can just wander over and watch it as they please. Seems to be a popular way of showing the montage.

I think looping it would work better but if you want everyone's rapt attention, it will probably have to be short.

The photographer can do it. In the alternative, you could do a photo montage during cocktail hour: that way guests can mill about the TV screen and chat about the pictures during an otherwise awkward time. The DJ does this presentation. TV screen and a montage run between 200-300, you can make it yourself and just get the tv for closer to 100.
