I have a videographer booked for my daughters wedding and found out today that having them mic’d up is more money. I wanted to see is it normal to have the video without hearing any voices just background music?

It won’t be random background noises it will be set to music which is usually how it’s done.

Sorry I really didn’t mean random music they get to pick the music I just meant if would not be any sounds from the actual event.

They will cut it in such a way that they will include speeches, ceremony, etc. it just won’t include the random conversations throughout the day.

Ok. I guess I was not clear on what I was saying. I have seen more videos lately of just music in the background but no voices. I have not seen any lately where you can hear the couple say their vows and speeches etc. so I was just asking peoples thoughts on which they liked better. That’s all.

My daughter's video was all voices and no music (other than what was already embedded in ceremony/reception). I knew what you were asking...it definitely made it more "real" and authentic.

Ooooooh. I see. I think what you’re seeing is the “trailer”. I’m having both a trailer and a feature length video, which will include the entirety of the evening. I think you should ask your photographer if he is including both.

Is there a great difference in the price ?

I will say, I think this is very weird.

My husband is a videographer, and as a result I know many of the video services in our area. None charge extra for mics.

That said, while I think it's weird they charge extra for the mics, I would definitely try to find a way to fit it in the budget if you can.

I would be disappointed if I got a wedding video and couldn’t hear the vows.

Hmm that's kinda weird, I'm a wedding videographer in Spokane Washington and usually I'll just set one price for the entire day and I'll get full coverage of everything which includes mics and audio from the reception. Typically it's easier for the bride if everything is one price rather than a bunch of upsells haha. Hope this helps, if you're curious here are some examples of my videos russfedorovfilms.com
