Videographer late on deadline and no response?

Lisa, on December 29, 2023 at 12:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3
So our wedding was 8/20/23 and our contract says wedding video would be delivered within 120 days (that was 12/18, its now 12/29). I emailed them 3 days ago to ask when we could expect the video by, no response. Our officiant had cc’d me in an email to the videographer on 12/4, she was asking if she could use part of the ceremony video for her website. I reached out to her yesterday and she replied immediately, saying she hasn’t heard back from him yet, but that she plans to follow up some time next week. If they need some extra time to complete the video that’s fine, but at least be professional and respond/let the client know there’s a delay. What should my next steps be if I don’t hear back soon?

Since it's still the holiday season, I would give them a little extra time to reply. Many people are traveling and/or enjoying time off work, so they might not be monitoring their work emails during this time. I agree that they should have replied to your officiant by now (and they also should have alerted you to the delay on their end), but I would wait until the first week of January before reaching out again to ask about the status of your video. You also might get a quicker response by calling them instead of emailing. If you still don't get a reply after the next attempt at contacting them, then I would send another email to remind them of what the contract states, and express that the lack of communication will force you to consider legal action to get your video.

Ugh. This seems to be an epidemic in this profession, for some reason. Our videographer was late delivering. Our photographer missed the deadline, created a new one, missed that one, created yet a new one, and still missed that one. 🤦🏼‍♀️ It’s super frustrating and it puts you in a difficult position, because you are super excited to get your photos back, but you also don’t want to rush them and/or annoy them and get a subpar product (especially if your officiant is also contacting them too). I would suggest reaching out on Wednesday at the earliest- that gives them enough time to celebrate the holidays and return from any travel. I would tread lightly in your email and try to keep it friendly. I said something to this effect when ours were super late… just wanting to check in with you since I haven’t heard back about an ETA on our photos. I understand editing takes time, and I don’t want to rush your creative process, but I would love an idea of when you expect them to be done (so my family can stop bothering me about when they get to see them, and I can stop bothering you LOL)

Wait until the holidays are over, and on Wednesday the 3rd or Thursday the 4th make a phone call that cannot be ignored like an email can. Email is good for a paper trail but it’s also easily ignored.
