Videographer or No Videographer?

Trinity, on April 12, 2021 at 5:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

So I originally hired a videographer at around $2200, but we had to postpone and the videographer will not return our deposit of $600 even though we haven't even met. He promised to give us other options such as taking engagement photos or a short save the date video. We have already done those with the photographer, so he said he can offer other options. However, he stopped responding or keep saying he's super busy.

Anyway, so I try to find another videographer, but they all run at at least $2000. I really can't afford this since we already lost $600. What's your two cents on having a videographer or not? Thank you!

If you still want a videographer, one thing you could do is join a Facebook wedding group for your city/area and put a post in there to ask for videographer recommendations! List your budget and your wedding date. Often times, vendors are in these groups and many of them are lower cost, and they likely will reply to your post, or other brides will give their recommendations. Search for "[city/area name] weddings" or "[city/area name] brides". Or, go to your local community college and ask the arts department if any film students would be available to take video of your wedding! Those are often less expensive, though the quality is just as good.

It is absolutely not necessary, in my opinion. So many couples I know have opted to do it because they feel they are so sentimental. However, they rarely ever watch it except on anniversaries. $2000 is a lot of money for a ten-minute video you'll watch once a year. Unfortunately, you'll lose that $600, but you'll save an extra $2,000!

    Hello Lisa,

Thank you for your suggestions! Actually, that's where I found my original videographer and it's also where I found a new one for the new price. I have a friend that could do the videography part, but my venue requires the person to have a business because they need to have Certificate of Insurance.

That's what I am thinking too, but I am afraid I will regret my decision. Thank you for your 2 cents!

We’ve opted to not have one. We don’t think it’s worth the overall cost since we won’t watch the video afterwards. Not sure if this is helpful. Sorry to hear that you haven’t gotten your deposit back.

We opted to not have a videographer because they were so expensive. This July will be our 2nd wedding anniversary and we don't regret not having a wedding video. In fact, we actually have video of our ceremony that my cousin recorded on his iPhone, and we've never even watched that, even though it was actually pretty good quality.

My husband and i did not have a videographer and I'm glad we didn't. My aunt actually advised me against having one. Her and my uncle had one at their wedding years ago and they only watched the video 2 or 3 times since their wedding day. She also said that she has no clue where the video even is now, lol. I personally think a better option would be to either save the money, or do what I should've done and pay for a second photographer so you have more opportunities for different types of photos. Smiley smile

We're not hiring a videographer for our wedding. We'll be live streaming the ceremony using a free app that saves the video to your account and the phone used, so we'll have that for when we do want to watch it. We figured we wouldn't watch it often enough to warrant spending oodles of money on that service.

Yeah! We're using Lovecast, which has been highly recommended by a lot of other brides on here. We haven't set it up yet so I don't really have any firsthand experience with it, but I've heard nothing but good things.
