Videographer or Waste of Money?

I heard the points about missing out on important details because of all the running, but does your photographer really not capture enough of those shots? I also would like to save some money and that's an extra expense he wants to put on the chopping block and put the money towards my dream dress or our wedding shower. Help!

We want our ceremony & speeches on film, that's why we hired one. Because pictures wouldn't give us the option to rewatch!

We have an awesome photographer, but we are skipping the videographer. It depends on the person. I know I wouldn’t watch it many times if at all.. I hate watching myself and hearing my voice on camera lol.

We chose to have one because we want our ceremony filmed. I also love the artistic short films to music that they make you. Videographers just seem to capture something completely different from photographers, which is the life of the wedding. Plus, once some of your loved ones pass on, it will be great having that video to go back to.

I had the same exact thought in the beginning but in the end I chose to go with a videographer and I am extremely grateful that I did. I've been told numerous times that the day flies by and although photos will be a great reminder of it I love the idea of having a video to relive it whenever I want to. I also really like the idea of breaking out the video on our first anniversary as part of the celebration Smiley heart

I wanted a video more than photo just because it's kind of nice to have a live action capture of those moments ya know? However if you opt for only photo that's perfectly fine also. We had friends record a ton of those moments and send us clips anyway so maybe if your friends do that you'd already have quite a nice collection

We didn’t have one and don’t really have any regrets. My only regret is I have no photos/video of me coming down the stairs. My photographer took photos but they weren’t great because I looked down in most of them because I almost fell lol, but a video would have caught that moment. We set up a camera in the back and just home video caught the ceremony and other important moments and minus that one detail, that was plenty for us.

Video or dream dress? Video! Unless you already found the dream dress. Video is expensive so we won't have a pro there. It's nice if you can afford it but I'm fine with a non pro video of mine.

We hired a videographer and I’m so excited! I think video captures what photos can’t. In my opinion, it’s worthy. Good luck!

I have decided on hiring one, it does not have to be the highest quality in the world but I definitely want our vows on video. My grandparents and alot of my close family are much older and I would love to have their voice on tape so that I could go back and listen to it. I found someone very affordable.

While I would have liked to have a videographer, we ultimately decided against it. We had trouble finding one that would come just for the ceremony, and we really don't care to have the reception filmed. We also realized that, like many couples, we would probably only watch the video once a year at maximum.

Like everyone else has said, video will capture emotions that photos just can’t. I’m not sure where you’re located but I’m in northern va and the cost of a quality wedding video in the style we like was around 5-6k... I did so hefty research and stumbled upon a company in va beach who will do exactly the same thing, style and quality for 2k plus travel. It may help to look outside of your region if you live in a more expensive area!

As a videographer myself, I am biased but to my husband and I, the videographer was just as important as the photographer for us.

Video captures the movement of the day. It captures things that you're going to miss. Afterwards, I found myself reaching out to friends and family to see what videos they took.... hence further convincing me that hiring one was important, because all I want is more.

Photos are just as important but why wouldn't you want twice as many ways to remember your perfect day? Why wouldn't you want photos and a professional video? It's all that you'll have left after when your memories begin to fade.

I'd love a videographer, my FH says no and our budget says absolutely not. We splurged on our venue and DJ so there is just no way of getting one.

We decided we are adamantly against having one. We don't really need to be recorded, and I know my parents have a wedding video. But I've never seen it. Not getting a videographer was one of the first and easiest choices we made.

We watch my parents video all the time. I love it.
But I love it because it wasn't professional, they had a good friend (who has passed) record it. He did the ceremony, got the preist calling my parents the wrong name and then managed to get my grandmothers reaction. It's priceless and honestly a professional likely wouldn't have found it as funny to record the mother's reaction to that. He did a video at each table of people saying nice things about my parents and it's charming.
So my point is there's a compromise that's equally beautiful, ask a friend to do it. Sure it might not be amazing high quality and you won't have a highlight reel set to music but you'll save the money and have what matters. It's okay to have a professional if your heart desires it, but if you really can't get your fiance on board don't be afraid to do a home video.

People that didn't get it and are "fine" or got something from a friend don't know what they missed. They watch it once cause it's unwatchable when not done by a pro. A video is not for every wedding though, like if you're getting married in court, probably not necessary. However, if you're planning a day with family and friends, food and music, dressed and flowers, and trying to make it something special then YES, get a video!! You can make more money, you CAN'T get back those moments once they're gone! Since hindsight is 20/20 you don't know right now how much you're going to be thankful for it later! We still hear from clients over 10 years later who say it was the BEST money they spent, it captures A LOT more than their photos (which they happily spend thousands on), they watch the video all the time, their kids LOVE IT. Clients also tell us there are people in the video that are no longer around, including sometimes parents, and they enjoy them in the video living and breathing in action! It's time travel, it's history! One bride wrote me after her dad passed to say how much she's glad she can watch him walk her down the aisle in the video, dance with her, give a speech at her wedding, etc. I know photos capture a still moment of these things, but it's just NOT the same at all! Would photo book of your favorite movie be as good as the movie, or was it the movie with motion, sound, action, dialogue, music that connected with you? Have you SEEN The videos people produce these days? There are still bad ones of course, cause again you get what you pay for, which people have YET to learn, but if you get the right person it's absolutely worth the investment, even if it's MORE than you expected. WATCH the work, make sure you like it, and know who you're working with, and it will be worth every penny! Like others have said, it's not just any ordinary day, it's your wedding, so don't just spend hundreds on that horse that shows up so you can pet it for 10 minutes and take a couple of pics with it, capture the whole day on video so you can remember it and enjoy it after. Everyone says the day is a BLUR, so you don't even get to enjoy it fully that day. You and your family will be thrilled to have this to relive it afterwards. Such a special day!

I absolutely would have one if I could afford it. My mom is going to record our vows but it’s not quite the same as some gorgeous edited video. If you can afford it, it’s absolutely worth the money.

I'd prioritize photos but I'm thinking of having someone record it for me. Probably my fiance's cousin that's too old for flower girl but not quite old enough for Jr Bridesmaid. My parents video is a home movie and I love it because of that.
