Videographer vs Photographer; Which is more important?

Taylor, on June 26, 2019 at 1:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Because I am planning on a budget, I am in a dilemma. I have found a photographer who's pictures I love, but who is slightly past what I am wanting to spend on photography. Their package includes quite a lot of items and is about half the price of the rest of the market. But if I choose this photographer then I will have to say no to a videographer. I have a second pick for a photographer who is much cheaper and choosing them would allow me to also have a videographer. Should I choose a slightly less quality photographer in order to have video as well? I've heard tons of people say they regret not having a videographer and I don't want to be one of them.

That depends what you want out of it. A good photographer can replace the need for a videographer. We had a great photographer and I cherish my photos. We have them hanging in the house, we made books for our families, etc. I will love them forever. We got a cheaper videographer to film our ceremony and do a highlight video, it worked perfect for us. For me, pictures are a little more important though I work in the media production industry.

Will you regret having terrible pictures for the sake of having a great video? What if the photographer misses a ton of details, family shots, etc. Are you going to watch your video enough for that to be worth it?

I'll also leave you with this, a great photographer leaves no picture un-took. Our photographer got a few awesome pictures of my husbands uncle (like another dad to him) and a few months later he passed away. The family was SO happy we had a lot of great photos of him enjoying himself and with his family at the wedding that they displayed a ton of our wedding photos at the funeral. Sounds morbid, but in my opinion photos will always hold more sentimental value than video.

I wanted video more than photos. But I feel like if you have a friend with a nice camera and likes photography you could ask them to capture certain footage for you. That's what my friends did. I had a photo and video team but they still did it anyway and it was just additional shots my video and photo team could use

You choose whichever you feel is more important to you. Photos or videos. I would not have a wedding without a photographer preset, but that is my opinion and I will not be hiring a videographer simply because I don't find it necessary for my own needs. Photos are forever and you can do so much more with them than you can with video. Weigh the pros and cons of both and come to a decision with your FH.

A picture lasts a lifetime and is worth a thousand words! Definitely go with the photographer.

For us photography was most important. We didn’t have a videographer and don’t regret it.

I wanted both, but at the end of the day, our budget would only allow for one or the other. I chose a photographer. I loved her work, and when I met her in person, loved her personality. She is really into telling our love story through her photos. There is no video on earth that can do that. So, it wasn't a hard choice.

Photographer. 100%. We had a fairly fancy wedding and I skipped a videographer to have an EXCEPTIONAL photographer. I dont regret it at all. You cant hand a video on your wall (unless it's in the TV lol)

For me, photo is more important than video. We spent more on photo than video. Do you like the cheaper photographers work?

For me, photography was more important than video, but I was set on getting both. I have a wonderful photographer, and the package I got includes videography that her husband's company does. His videography is very good, but it wasn't my first choice. I decided to go with my photography/videography package because it allowed me to have both within budget. Do you like the cheaper photographer's photos? If so, it may be worth doing that so you can have both. I've heard a lot of people say they wish they had gotten a videographer!

I’m a very sentiment person. I am always grabbing photo albums off the shelves and watching old family videos. I know I wanted both and so I hired both. Some people prefer just pictures but they feel how many times can you rewatch your wedding video which I can understand but I’m doing both. 2 photographers and 2 videographers. Very excited
