Videographer - was it annoying?

Kati, on May 11, 2017 at 12:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

We originally weren't going to do a videographer for budgeting reasons but found one for a decent price with great reviews and sample videos of previous weddings so are leaning towards hiring him.

But now I'm thinking is it going to be annoying to have someone video taping everything? Previous brides or even those who have attended weddings with videographers is it annoying or do you even notice with everything that's going on?

I'm also a little worried I'll look dumb in the video and wind up feeling self conscious about my day. Anybody experience that?

It really depends on the professionalism of the videographer. I recommend Michael Simon in NJ, and we had worked together like four times before I even realized he was on site. Part of it is consciously ignoring the videographers, which sounds counter productive, but it's vital to them telling a story without it being contrived.

I've been to tons of weddings with a videographer and you hardly notice them. I am having one myself. It's such a great way to relive the day and see things that you may have missed. I've seen a few wedding videos and it's funny, sweet and romantic all at the same time

It absolutely depends on the videographer, but I barely noticed our two photographers and two videographers at the wedding! When I was researching vendors I focused on vendors with a more candid and photo-journalistic style, and asked them about how they work on the wedding day!

A really good professional videographer knows how to work without being invasive to your event. Bad ones, or inexperienced ones, yes they're annoyingn and intrusive, same can happen with photographers. Choose wisely or opt out, is my advice.

I haven't noticed videographers at the weddings I've attended, but then again the couples might not have hired one.

I don't care if he gets in the way though; if the cinematographers I'm using comes anywhere near producing what OGDianna's cinematographers produced for her wedding, they could push my guests off a cliff for all I care.

Go search for her BAM when you get a chance.

I'm a videographer and my philosophy is to be the background. It is the photographers job to direct events and people, and the videographer's job to capture events as they happen. In order to do that, you need to be out of the way.

Also, as the bride you are the celebrity for the day, and celebrities go about their lives all day while being recorded by paparazzi and news crews. Just go about your day like normal and forget your are being filmed. You will really get the best result that way! Good luck!

The only time I saw our videographer was when he came to the hotel to shoot some footage of us getting ready. Other than that, I didn't see him. He managed to capture everything about our day while staying under the radar.

I barely notice good, professional photographers & videographers -- and I'm facing them.

Now, the amateur or beginners -- that's another story. One photographer made the bride late to the ceremony and then was between the couple and the front row (parents) of guests during the ceremony. I felt like kicking her out of the way so the parents could see!

2023 FL bride here - our videographer was the worst part of our wedding day. Not only was he invasive, rude, and treated our wedding like a film set - he missed the majority of my aisle walk! Our photographer was incredible, but if I could do it again I would skip the videographer.
