Videographer; yes or no? And who?

Do y'all suggest we get a videographer or no? Everyone I've talked to says yes. But they're so expensive! I can't afford much more for our wedding... any suggestions??

Yes. My only regret from my proposal was that it went by so quickly and it wasn't videotaped, even though we have great pictures from it. I've heard that the wedding day is a whirlwind and we wont remember everything from it, and I want to be able to relax and watch how everything turned out after the fact, especially since we are pouring so much money into it! I got lucky and found a videographer who will shoot my ceremony and reception (minimally edited) for $500. He's on the younger, less established side, but we saw his portfolio and really liked it and we can't afford more.

I think it depends on what you find important! For my fiance and I, we decided to put a good chunk of our budget to a photographer and videographer. Everyone tells me how fast the day goes, and that it almost feels like a blur. Memories are all we have after those 24 hours are over, and I want to cherish those forever. It's all about what is important to you for your day!

I feel like the answer to this question is fairly simple. If you can't fit it in your budget then leave it out. I feel like the videography isn't a necessary vendor at a wedding. I'd take the money you want to put towards it and book a kick ass photographer instead. That's just me though.

If you don't have the extra money for one don't hire one. One of the family members can always record the ceremony if you desire to have that filmed, it may not be a top notch recording but at least you have it recorded and it was free!

We're hiring one. Found him here on Wedding wire for a very good price. He's very friendly and he showed us video of a wedding he did at the same place we are getting married and we loved it! Plus, FH has something special he wants to do and wants it video taped lol

We originally did not plan on having one but after a lot of thought I changed my mind and we booked one. I can't imagine regretting it. I think I would regret it if I picked a budget videographer just to have one because I think it would be a waste of money. If you get one, get a good one.

We thought about it, then sided with not getting one. FHs dad said its nice if you're gonna watch it, but we'd probably watch it maybe once and sometimes anniversaries. We didn't wanna spend so much on something we probably won't look at. Just our opinion! I don't think it's super necessary, but it's up to you in the end!

We were also on the fence about getting one- but when we found our photographer - we totally fell in love with the style of videography his company offers. His videographer works for a news site and does weddings - so it's more of a journalistic approach. They make amazing highlight movies and that's all we really want. We will be provided the footage of the actual ceremony, and a 5-10 minute highlight video of the day.

I can't wait to have it - we also got a discount by booking both through the same person/company.

If cost is your only concern, you can consider only hiring someone to capture the raw footage and having it edited at a later date after the wedding when you have more funds available. This would break up the expense and ensure you don't have any regrets. Just a suggestion for compromise.

I wouldn't have hired one.... My fiance's brother has experience with it and does an excellent job. So he's doing ours for free.

I have one. I did my research and I was pleased. Just booked her. I loved seeing videos and couldn't dare not imagine having on my day. I've cut other places in my budget that weren't as important to me.

In video it's go big or go home. I recommend two (and they are both here) Michael Simons and OrangeFilmsNY, both in the NYC area. They will not do the normal 'chunks of moving photos set to music" that so many do.

I guess I've seen too many dresses hanging on hangers and the same stuff over and over.

These two are storytellers. And that is what you want, or else you need a recording, and any one of your relatives with an Iphone can do that.

I'm supposed to be getting mine back any day now, and I'm so excited to see it! It was totally worth it to me.

Definitely yes! We're right with you on the expense of it. When my daughter got married we got recommendations from the local high schools and colleges on students learning and wanting to make a little money. They took raw video of the entire day and we did the editing ourself. Save us lots! I'm now doing the same for my wedding.

We didn't want one, so we passed. We are putting the extra money towards a photobooth instead.

We're not having one because they're so expensive. Some people want to be able to rewatch things on video, and some may have non traditional weddings, but if you're neither of the above then I don't think you need it

Did you enjoy the photo booth? I'm also looking into that.
