Videographer? yes or no?

Samantha, on January 25, 2018 at 8:22 PM Posted in Planning 12 31

Hi everyone,

My FH and I are very unsure whether or not its even worth it to have a videographer. We are getting price quotes for $2500 and up for 20-30 mins of film. Is that even worth it or can we do without it and just have photos... I don't really see the point in spending 2k on 20 mins..

I skipped it (after polling several recently married friends) $2000 buys ALOT of other things ... better liquor, more photographer time, hair & makeup... list goes on and on.

I bought it because I plan on sharing this moment with my future children and its a day I want to cherish for a very long time. I grew up watching wedding videos and getting excited over seeing them - but that's my preference. It's an investment but if you're not planning on watching it much or you're going to be perfectly okay with just having a photographer (or trying to save), then that's a valid excuse not to have one. Don't feel obligated just weigh the pros and cons out and do what's best for you both. I'm paying 2k for my videographer but he's with me the entire day, I get an edited clip, full video and 20-30 min version (I think) with drone 3 cameras. His work is amazing for that 2k. Don't invest that much money if they are decent. You need to be head over heals with your videographer.

I had this same situation a little while back. At first, I was set on not having one due to the price. I felt the photographer was enough. But every now and then I would have dreams about having a wedding video. I would think about it more often than I should have. I finally caved and decided to get it. It's a couple thousand, but it'll last a lifetime. That's the way I see it.

    Hi!

I'm also in the same boat about paying that much. But, I feel videography is just as important as photography. To me I want to be able to look back at my wedding with both photos and video to cherish those memories forever. I want to be able to watch my vows over or see our first dance or my dance with my father.

I am also getting the same quotes for 2500+ for videographers. I say keep asking for quotes to see which offers more for less. I wouldn't pay 2500 for 30 mins. I have seen some videographers offer raw footage as opposed to a short 30 min edit.

I wasn't going to have one due to the cost but then my photographer has a friend trying to build her portfolio and she said she would do it for free and after watching some of her wedding videos she made I'm so happy we have one and feel so blessed it's at no charge. I think it's up to you and your budget.

Not for 2500. I also find them utterly annoying.

I'd skip it. I never watched my first wedding video (only got one because it was included) and I doubt I'd watch this one, either.

At first I was really set on having one, as I've been told how fast the day goes and how much can be missed by the bride and groom. However, once I started to think about it, I realized that aside from the first five times we watch it in a row once we get it back, we may not watch it much after that. Maybe once or twice a year? We have decided to skip the videographer and invest in two photographers. Also, we plan on hanging the pictures in our home, so we will see them every day!

I’m spending $1000 on a 5 minute highlight film. It’ll contain some key point audio of the vows, and toasts. I just wanted something to remember voices really.

That's is very good I finally gonna get my wedding video!!! I'm sooo happy

See if someone at a local college campus or recreational group is looking to build up their portfolio. You could get better prices. It may mot be as professional, but you would have something to look back on if it's important to you. And you may be presently surprised at how well that person does.

I discussed with other married couples and it was split 50/50 of doing it or not. In the end we decided to get a videographer. A lot of people say you’re so busy through the day it’s kind of a blur so i wanna be able to look back on everything. It didn’t feel worth it for just 5-7 minutes, so i kept searching to find the right package/person for us. In our package we get a 5-7 minute high feel, 40 min documentary style and the raw footage.

Same day edits are popular where I’m from and I really enjoy them myself so we decided hire a videographer. Also it’s crazy how much price varies based on region. We are paying over $5k for videography.

Have you watched sample wedding videos? After researching and finding some good videographers and then watching some of their sample videos, personally I felt that I just absolutely had to have one! Wedding videos can be really beautiful if they are well done, but they can also be super cheesy if done poorly, lol. I actually got a little teary eyed from watching some random strangers video because it was so good! Smiley xd

We decided against the videography. Photos are plenty. That price jump is also extremely unattractive being that we just bought a house a month ago

Our videographer is $1000 and I liked the work. I opted for the cheapest package as trying to be as budget friendly as possible. But I can’t really say I’ve cut back on other things to be able to afford it. The deposit was $350 though, which was a little steep but I digress. To me it’s worth it, because people die, and I want to be able to hear their voices.

I really want videography, and didn't think I was going to be able too, but I found a photo and highlight video package with 6 hrs of coverage for 2800. I'm also not splurging on my dress so we can do this. If it's something you feel you'll regret not doing, do it! I would keep looking to see if you can find package deals in your area. Good luck!

I am getting a videographer and I really only want Raw video. I want to see everything that I know I wont remember the day of. The little mess ups, other peoples reactions, the little things in between and being able to watch my friends and family from an outside view is probably what I look forward to most. Raw footage is only $700 with around 6 hrs of coverage and that's good enough for me.
