Videographer? yes or no?

Hi everyone, My FH and I are very unsure whether or not its even worth it to have a videographer. We are getting price quotes for $2500 and up for 20-30 mins of film. Is that even worth it or can we do without it and just have photos... I don't really see the point in spending 2k on 20 mins..

We had about a 5 minute conversation about videography and we both agreed it wasn't worth it and it's never come up again. We would watch it once and then sit on a shelf to maybe be dragged out again years down the line. We decided to get the best photographer we could and put our money into more important things.

If you have the budget to splurge on videography in addition to photography, I'd recommend it! It's a really different and wonderful way of re-living your wedding day aside from photos. That being said, videography is really expensive, just like photography, because of how much work is involved. That price doesn't seem outrageous, but sometimes I do see $2,500 and up for a little more time (like a couple hours of coverage). If they are excellent videographers and do beautiful work, this price may be reasonable.

I wanted one, FH was against it, basically calling it a waste of money (very untrue), but in the end we don't have the budget for it so we won't have one. If we had the money I would push for one.

My grandmother died before I was born and honestly I wish my mom would have hired a videographer as I would be able to see what she was like, her mannerisms, etc. I will be having a video so I can capture not only the wedding but all the special guests who will be there. We have a lot of elderly guests so it will be nice to be able to watch no only our wedding but to be able to see and remember those who will pass.

I was in the same boat about being undecided but I also caved and just booked one over the weekend. I know it'll be worth it!

That is way expensive. I am getting video for 1200 for almost all day. My mom insisted on it. We were not going to but decided to. If you really want just keep looking =)

Yes. Do it! Don't even question this. The price may seem over the top but you will regret not having a video person done professionally. If you want to preserve the memories the right way, it may get pricey but you will be glad that you did

We are having a family friend set up his professional camera to record the ceremony, first dances & speeches. That way we can have the videos of these really special moments at no cost to us.

This 100%. I lost my dad 14 years ago and wish I had video of him. Or even better/more pictures. This is why I was OK going over on both photo and video. I spent 25% of my budget on them so I'm an estimated 3k over right now lol. I want lots of pictures and video of everyone that's still here. One of my best friends is 73 on Monday and even though I tell her she has to live to 120 I know that's not likely. Plus I love watching other people's wedding videos, so I'm sure I'll love my own.

I'm getting one but their 2k package included a same-day-edit slideshow film and highlight reel along with all the raw footage. I told them that I didn't need a same-day-edit and asked if they could make the highlight film longer. I also said that they could take their time with editing (no more than two months after the wedding). They agreed. It doesn't hurt to customize... or to even tell them what your budget is and ask if they could do anything to accommodate you because you loved their videos SOO much. That's how I got our photographer, DJ, and videographer to be under our budget for them.

I think it's nice to have the video though it may be worth for you to look around a little more to see if you can find a better deal. Mine was around $1,500 for 4-5 hours of raw film and a 2-3 minute edited video.
