We made definitely having a photographer to captured our big day! Is a videographer necessary or worth it as well?

I feel like this is one of those things where it’s either worth the extra money for you and FH or it’s not. I initially did not plan on getting a videographer (and wanted the cheapest photography package I could find), but then the numerous articles/comments I read about how that’s one of the only things from your wedding you actually get to keep and the best way to preserve those memories, I changed my mind. In terms of videography, I think it depends on whether you feel photos are enough or whether you’ll want to re-watch the speeches, hear the toasts, etc. One of the things that sold me is that as the bride, you don’t get to see or hear anything that happens at the ceremony before your entrance. You can also ask a trusted friend or family member (or two as backup) to record key moments if you care more about just preservation but not professional quality.

A videographer isn't truly necessary, but I think it's worth it. My husband and I initially weren't going to book a videographer, but when we postponed due to COVID, we changed our minds, and it ended up being totally worth it!! We love how our videos turned out, and we watch them often. They captured some moments of our guests that I hadn't seen on the wedding day because I was preoccupied with other tasks, I get to hear the speeches again from my MOH and my husband's best man, watch our guests dance, relive the entire ceremony, etc. If you have room in your budget, I strongly recommend a videographer.

I think a lot of it depends on whether you're the type to rewatch old home movies, enjoy videos of memorable events, etc. That's definitely something I do, so videography at our wedding was a no-brainer. There were a few pictures that we didn't get or angles we weren't crazy about, so being able to have the video of those moments was really special. There's also plenty of things that can't really be captured on photo like a first dance, speeches, or other people's emotions that videography can capture better.
