Videography Ideas for canceled wedding?

Chris, on January 31, 2021 at 11:24 AM Posted in Planning 1 8

We had to cancel our wedding due to the pandemic. We got our deposit back from our venue since they are not having any spring weddings due to restrictions. But our videographer said our deposit is non-refundable. Which I understand but I was wondering if anyone have ideas on what else I could use the deposit videography service for? Someone suggested a birthday party, family film or something shorter. Any unique or fun ideas? We also had our mini ceremony last year and thinking this Spring we could have our reception but so far it's not looking promising and it's just stressful to keep planning and extending.

Anyone have similar situation where they put their deposit towards different use or ideas for cancel wedding I would appreciate to look into. Thanks!

Maybe you could have some of your closest family members/friends give short speeches and send it to your videographer on audio.
Like best man, maid of honor, father of the bride, groom’s parents, if any of these are applicable, and then recite your vows on audio. Depending on the length of the video. And then the videographer could just take a day and get footage of you and your Spouse in your wedding attire at the beach/or any good shootable scenery and make a video like that? You could even have him do a reenactment of your first look in there too or something.

One of the things I recently learned about in my search for a videographer was a video engagement session! They capture footage of you and your fiance (whether it be out on a hike through the woods, sharing a coffee at a coffee shop, a hug while looking out over a lake, etc), and format it into a cute video that's a few minutes long. Would that be something that your videographer is willing to apply your deposit towards?

Maybe you can do like a love story film? Where you talk about your story and how you fell in love. I've seen some that are used generally for engagement shoots, but I think it could still work!

I agree with the love story film idea, or engagement shoot if your videographer allows this. Maybe go to an outdoor place with a great view and capture it in your wedding attire or renewal attire. Just some ideas

Thank you everyone! I've forwarded the suggestions to them and see if I could at leave use the deposit toward something similar mentioned. We also have kids so I also suggested a family lifestyle type film too. But in all something short and sweet.

I know a couple that cancelled their large wedding, but in order to use their videographers, they went to a beautiful location and did a little mini ceremony just the two of them. They read their vows and exchanged rings. It was really very beautiful.

Do you know with there mini ceremony - how long was the final film length? My videographer said they're willing to do a short film and it will be edited 1-2 mins long and he can shoot for about 1.5 hours and I would need to come up ideas and planning to send to them.

I already had my ceremony last year thinking we'll celebrate this spring. So during my ceremony I just had a friend film for us.

I think it was around 5 minutes. Their videographers filmed a lot after the ring and vow exchange. Hard to explain this part, but they chose a field/meadow on top of a mountain, so there was a lot of scenery. They were filmed walking through the field and all that kind of stuff. Made it more of a cinematic feel.
