Videography regrets

Gen, on April 25, 2019 at 12:14 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 29
Ok, so initially I wanted a videographer very badly, just mostly to have coverage of the ceremony. But after realizing how pricey they are, we decided about 9 months ago that we were not to have one, but to just set up tripods for the ceremony instead.

We’re 38 days away from the wedding and I’m suddenly starting to feel a pang of regret... I feel like I will be so upset if we don’t have good coverage of our ceremony, first dance, speeches, etc and I’m so stressed about it...

Did any of you feel regret about not hiring a videographer? Were any of you worried you’d regret not having one, but then realized you were fine without? Do you think it’s even possible to find one with availability this close to our wedding date (it is a Sunday so not as popular a date I hope!)

If it is in your budget, I say do it. I knew up front I wanted a videographer because I knew there were going to be moments I missed or wanted to relive again. It's your ultimate decision. Try WW to find vendors who might be available. I know photographers and videographers book up fast, so hopefully you'll have some luck.

I am not having any regrets. I'm not a home movie person and never watched the ones I used to have. I did have a few friends record those moments using their phones, so I got to see it once which was enough for me. Hearing my guests comments meant so much more than seeing a video of it.

That being said, if it's important to you, and you think you'll regret it, see if you can make it happen.

Videography was a must for me. I just have to have one of those 3-4 minute highlight videos set to our song. With some research, we were able to find one with good reviews and sample work for $900.

I always wanted a videographer---until I found out how much they cost!! Yikes!!

I'm going to keep searching, to see if there's someone out there I can afford. But for now, we're not having one.

Try Thumbtack. I keep hearing great things about this service and finding more affordable vendors.

I regret not hiring one for the whole day, but we could not afford it. I am a television producer, so video is a very important and big role of my every day life. We saved enough money to hire a professional for two hours and they edited a highlight video of our ceremony and picture session. I'm am 1000% happy that I have at least that, since it is the most important part of the day. However, looking back I definitely would have saved more money and hired someone for the whole day because honestly I enjoyed the video almost more than my photos.

I was going to do the same thing but decided on a videographer. The family got together for Thanksgiving and played home movies, including my FHs brothers wedding. It was shaky and hard to hear at times though still fun to watch, but that made me decide a professional was best.

I should also mention we’re shooting in 4K for picture stills and nixing a photographer ( my biggest woe but he doesn’t want one) for the entire day - getting ready to send off - it’s $900. Also keeping it unedited and either editing myself or finding a cheaper alternative down the road.

I am paying for one because I knew I'd regret it if I didn't get one! My brother and sister-in-law got married 4 years ago, and my sister-in-law said I definitely had to get one (although, I was planning on it the entire time). She still watches their wedding video often, and it's what she cherishes the most from her wedding!

My biggest regret is not hiring one! I didn’t get to see the grand entrance and I wanted to see that so bad, I recorded all the speeches but I want to see more of the wedding

I feel zero regrets, I’m never gonna watch my wedding video. So I’m not paying someone thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars to take one

I don't regret not hiring one. I felt like it might take a way from the day and have people act less natural from being on camera. We splurged on a great photographer and we will have plenty of memories.

At first we decided no videographer, just photographer. My FH hates photography due to his mom taking so many of him (what mother of an only child doesn't take a bunch of photos?!) He's crazy, but I told him I'm not going to rely on either of our memories to remember the day, so we at least had to have a photographer. Then he decided he wanted a videographer, which meant we had to lower our photographer budget. We have a videographer for 6-7 hours for $900 (lowest price I found). It includes a 5-7 minute highlight film and our whole ceremony. Photographer is full-day (getting ready to send off) for $1,040 for a minimum of 350 photos and a second shooter (plus free engagement session). This far out, I wouldn't assume I would regret not having a videographer, but who knows.

I feel the same way! I have a year and a half still, but we can’t afford to pay for a videographer. The cheapest that I’ve found is like $2,500! I think that’s insane just for a 3-4 minute video. I found storymix media on Pinterest and am thinking of trying that. They have WeddingMix where you get go pros and ask people to carry them around to record the day. You send them back in and they turn it into a video and you keep all of the raw footage. I think the cheapest package is like $200.

Videography was the one big thing we splurged on. My FH and I are VERY sentimental and wanted something to go back and watch so we could remember the day other than just pictures. I am not regretting spending what we did because the quality of this guy's work is just ridiculously good! I would say you could start looking if its something you are worried about or you even THINK you will regret not doing later on!

I didn’t initially want one but we were SO blessed to have someone who is trying to build a videography portfolio ask if he could use our wedding!

I regret not having one. I would’ve loved to have video of our ceremony, the speeches, dancing, etc.

We're not hiring one. FH and I aren't really home movie types so I doubt we would ever watch it. We both have dabbled in photography so we're being extra picky about who we hire as we want something some what specific with our photos.
