There are so many things that videos capture that photos do not! The sound of your grandmother's laughter, the maid of honor's signature dance moves, the way you and your dad walk down the aisle, etc. If it's in your budget, I strongly recommend considering booking a videographer!

So many people and past posts mention regretting that they didn’t have video. It doesn’t even have to be fancy expensive. Just a phone set on a tripod or investing in a GoPro also set on a tripod that can be used to document other family events going forward. It captures so much that you don’t get in photos alone. For example, if you have guests who you don’t see often or are getting older, it’s a great way to include them as well because you may not get another chance to do so. There’s so much that you miss because you can’t be in two or more places at once.

It also would allow you to look back on your ceremony every year (if you chose to rewatch it every year on your anniversary), hear your vows to each other, etc. It totally depends on the person though - there are many people who didn't hire a videographer and don't regret it. But, I also know people who are especially glad they hired a videographer because their wedding photos didn't turn out as well as they hoped, but the video turned out awesome. For me, I didn't hire a videographer for my original date, but once we postponed due to COVID, I read about how many people loved their wedding videos on these forums, and my fiance and I decided that we'd rather spend the money for a videographer, rather than risking regretting it later. After watching some example videos from our videographer, we are super excited for our wedding video! If you think you'd want a video, it couldn't hurt to look into it before making a decision.

I totally see the conundrum with this - on one hand, having both is EXPENSIVE. but i do agree video is totally different in what it captures. but some people are also happy with if they have a really good photographer. i think just look at your budget and if it's doable then go for it! if not, then like someone above said, you can even have an informal one someone helps capture for you

Videography was by far the best thing we spent money on for our wedding! Photos are great, but they do not capture movement and sounds throughout your day. You will be so busy and sometimes overwhelmed that you will forget stuff or miss stuff. It is so nice to have videos to go back and look at! Also, think about family members that are older and might not be with you much longer. It is nice to have that memory with them on video! I 100% say hire a videographer.
