Hi! I just got married in Virginia. you'll just need to go with your FH to your county courthouse with your ID's and fill out some paperwork. I was able to fill my paperwork out online so it saved us time at the courthouse. Licenses in VA are valid for 60 days.

Your officiant will sign, as well as you and your FH (no witness signatures needed). Then your officiant will send it back to the court. They will mail you an official copy. Ours came really quickly, less than 2 weeks after the ceremony.

Once you obtain the license, your officiant will sign both copies and return them by mail to the clerk's office. No need for you to sign anything else. If you and your fiancé need a copy right away to prove your marriage, discuss this with your officiant. It can take a couple of weeks for the clerk's office to record the license which they will need to do before you can obtain a copy. In my experience, couples have to request the copy.
