Does anyone have good ideas on virtual weddings, I want to make my wedding available for those who can't come, Should I use Facebook live? What is a good way to send favors to guests who cannot come.

For the favors, you could mail them ahead of time! That way, everyone has them by the wedding day. If you wanted to, you could also include a mini champagne bottle for each person with a note stating to save it for when they're watching the live stream of the reception. At the reception, you could do a toast to everyone watching the live stream, and ask them to open their champagne bottles at that time. I wouldn't use Facebook live for streaming unless you can control who is watching and limit it to only those who you invited. Otherwise, you could do a Zoom call?

My cousin and his (now) wife made a private Facebook group for their wedding. They were able to invite the specific people that they wanted to join virtually, then live streamed their ceremony through the private, invite only, group. It worked out very well for them! People were able to view the entire ceremony as well as leave them warm wishes on the groups page!

As far as favors, I really love Lisa’s idea of the small champagne bottle and toast them after the ceremony or during the reception if you live stream that as well.

We are using Event Live for the streaming. We researched it and decided that was the best for us.

As for favors, we plan to mail them out in a little package before so they can be opened while our loved ones what the livestream. I looked into it and private citizens cannot mail alcohol so I can’t send the mini champagne bottles. We’ve thought about sending gift cards so people can buy their own when we send out the invitations to the live stream.

    Hey Ladies,

I'm having a similar issue trying to decide to stream or not to stream, and then if we do, what/who do we use. I didn't really want to do the FB thing, but then I realized you can do a private group. The only con for me with that is what about the people who don't use FB? How would they be able to participate?

I also looked into Event Live. Not sure if FS is sold on it. I stumbled upon Lovecast through someone mentioning it in another discussion. It's completely free, but I don't know if we'll use that either.

At this point, we may just wind up taping it and sharing the video later. Still undecided.

    Hi ladies,

I've definitely shared the struggle with you guys while trying to plan my wedding and picking a reliable livestream platform was such a struggle for me. I've looked into IG, FB, Youtube, Zoom, Event Live, and Lovecast. The cool thing about all of these platforms is you can test it out beforehand. I quickly realized the big companies such as IG, FB, and Zoom your guests are required to download the app which can become complicated for those who are not tech-savvy. I wanted my grandma to be able to see my wedding and didn't want her calling me during my vows asking me for technical assistance lol. Anywho before this message gets long. I ended up going with Lovecast and here are some reasons why:

    1. No app download required for your viewers. You just share the link with your guest. I updated my wedding site with the URL so my guests can there and click and watch it.

    2. Easy to navigate (just press start)

    3. Good video quality ( we tested FB Live and Lovecast parallel before our wedding and Lovecast had better video quality)

    4. You can invite your MOH or wedding planner to the app to help you livestream your wedding (THANK GOD) Having a co-host who can manage the angles was definitely a hit!

    5. Copy of your video is saved onto your phone

At first, I was hesitant because they didn't have a lot of reviews in the app store. Not a lot of people talk about Lovecast. So I'm like are they trustworthy? I reached out to another gal in the wedding wire who used them and she shared her video and experience with me and I was sold! Not to mention their customer service is pretty good. I had questions about the minutes and the number of guests and was shocked to know they were free.

In addition to this, I want to share some useful tools/tips for your wedding which helped ours a lot. I used a tripod I bought off Amazon for $25 bucks, a ring light for better lighting, make sure you have INTERNET ( after all these apps are technology and depend on good internet connection), get a pair of wireless lavalier lapel microphones, and practice practice ahead of time!

I think this is everything we learned going through this whole experience (the new norm) and hope this helps you ladies with your own virtual weddings. We've had soo many compliments on how professional and smooth it went and how much fun it was! And we had an absolute blast, it was as good as we could have dreamed given the circumstances.

Did you have someone set up the cameras and mics for you, and do the log on/etc at the ceremony for you? I really want to be lazy on my wedding day. No stress. But I also want my friends and family in another state to be able to see and hear the ceremony and maybe part of the reception in a clear and polished manner. Did you practice at home or at the venue? I’m sorry if these questions seem elementary but not only do I not want to stress, my FH will totally shut down at the slightest technological issue. Did your wedding planner/MOH run the app from the ceremony or remotely? I didn’t want to bother a guest with having to do anything, either. We may just have 3 guests in person. Thank you!

Most people have mentioned in other threads using Zoom, Skype, Google Duo, Youtube, etc. Many people are not on Facebook and not everyone knows how to use Facebook Live. Elderly guests do not and many tech savvy middle-aged folks do not either.

Whichever service you use, make sure that someone is in charge of the cameras/tech.
