Vow renewal

Grace, on November 21, 2021 at 2:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2
My husband and I got married in 2018. We have had a lot going on since then, 2 kids, new business, new jobs, new home, COVID, work accidents.
We feel like we have lost the spark a bit in our relationship and we want that back. We spoke about doing a vow renewal plus we could invite people we couldn’t invite the first time.
We want to tell our parents but not sure how to approach it as they are old school and might see this as a stupid idea. Any ideas would be a really big help. Thank you

Not sure why you need to get your parents approval to plan a party. Sure, they might think it's silly (I don't know them or understand what being "old school" has to do with vow renewals since they are not a new invention), but that's OK. You can't control their feelings, so just plan the party you and your husband want, invite your parents, and enjoy the day.

All of that said, I don't know if you will get the result you seek from your vow renewal if your goal is to re-kindle the spark in your relationship with your husband. That's asking a lot of a party. Maybe try counseling first.

I agree with Maggie - it doesn't matter if your parents fully understand the idea, this is about you both recommitting to your marriage!! If it's important to you, you should do it! 💕
