Vow Renewal/wedding We Never Had? (what to call it, etc)

Nae, on January 31, 2024 at 6:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Hi! My husband and I eloped at age 19 and 20, still in college, broke of course. We didn't have a wedding, we were initially planning one but our lives got turned upside down by someone in our family getting really sick. Long story short, we will be married 7 years on June 23rd and have already started planning our vow renewal/wedding we never had. We aren't sure what to call it when we're sending out invitations, but we're doing the whole sha-bang - beautiful venue, white dress, bouquets, reception, etc. We will be skipping out on registry, bachelorette parties, etc (for obvious reasons).

My biggest question is that I'm about to send out invitations, but I don't know what I'm calling this. I want people to have the right expectations because this will be grand like a normal wedding ceremony, but we are in fact simply renewing our vows. Can someone help me brainstorm something creative to call this on our wedding invitations? I was thinking "The Wedding We Never Had" but it's so long, and it might be cringe/warrant some side-eyes.

Like I said, this will certainly feel like a wedding in its grandeur but I'm not sure what we should write on our invitations. I need to send them asap as we are only about 5.5 months out at this point.

I would keep it simple and call it a Vow Renewal. Have a great event!

I think calling this a Vow Renewal would be the most accurate. It sounds like you're got a great celebration planned! Congratulations!

An elopement is a wedding. You would be having a vow renewal unless you got divorced in between then and now.

If you don't like vow renewal (which I totally understand, because that term can feel a bit underwhelming - especially for the event you have planned), you could call it a celebration of marriage! I like the "wedding we never had", but if you find it's too long for invitations, you could always use that title on your wedding website!
