Our wedding planner wants us to start writing our vows already (ahhh!!!), so I've put together a rough draft of mine. I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions! Trying to keep it under 2 minutes.
"Evan, when people ask me to describe you, I usually say, “he’s an enthusiast”. It’s a line that often gets a chuckle, but really, it’s the highest compliment that I can offer you. When I say that you’re an enthusiast, I mean that you unabashedly throw yourself into the things that you love. You approach life with unbridled joy, curiosity, and passion. Your enthusiasm is what makes you the best possible life partner: you commit to relationships wholeheartedly and without reservation. You simply don’t do things halfway, which is why there has never been a time when I didn’t feel entirely loved and supported by you. Your enthusiasm is inspiring, life-affirming, and my absolute favorite thing about you. And so I vow to always honor your enthusiasm, to nourish your excitement, and to share my own with you. I vow to play with you, to question with you, and to feel your joy as my own. When times are hard, I vow to support you as completely as you have supported me – to gently but resolutely remind you of the things in life that are worth being enthusiastic about.
I’ve heard it said that marriages function best when each partner is trying to do 60% of the work in the relationship. In other words, each partner should always try to put in a little more effort, to go the extra mile, to make sure that their spouse isn't doing all the work.
A 60/40 split seems impossible when you love me so well and so completely. I can't imagine outdoing you. But I vow to always try. I love you. "
