Vows: personal or repeat after me.

Did you have peronalized or did you do repeat after me? I've been to a few weddings where I've overheard guests criticising the nuptials' vows. Due to this, I'm a bit nervous with the thought of sharing my own words in front of several people. How do you all feel? What do you plan to do?

We did traditional vows and exchanged letters before the wedding (I gave his to one of the groomsmen, and he gave mine to one of the bridesmaids). I was emotional enough without trying to read - plus I didn't want to have to put on my reading glasses! lol

We are doing handwritten personal vows before the ceremony (right after first look) and then doing traditional repeat after me vows during the ceremony. We personally would never say our personal vows in front of anyone else but I have seen it done at weddings and it’s lovely!

We wrote our own views then each shared them with a friend to make sure they were about the same time and same style. I’m so glad we did we wrote our own!

Yes, I've started them awhile ago. Still working on them but I think it's coming along nicely. I hope lol. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. As long as it's from the heart, that's all that matters.

It worked out well. We still ended up saying all of the things to each other while we were working on them, but there wasn't a lot of stress during the ceremony. Also, people are impatient, so it helps to keep things short.

We did not have personal vows because we had a Jewish wedding ceremony and the exchange of personal vows isn't allowed. It was actually a giant relief because my husband has tremendous public speaking anxiety!

We did personalized vows and it was the most amazing part of a perfect day. People kept coming up to us to tell us how much they loved them and exchanging our vows made me cry. I wouldn’t not do it just because you’re worried that one of your loved ones will judge you. If you’re close enough to them that they’re invited to the wedding then they shouldn’t be doing that anyway.

We're writing our own vows! I find it very sweet and personal as opposed to just repeating what the officiant says. The only thing we are repeating is the phrase when we exchange rings.

I wouldn't worry about what other people think about it, because honestly it's your day and everyone is there to celebrate you both, not criticize.

I get that! I care a lot about what people think, but if you both think writing your own vows speaks more to you as a couple, then I say go for it! Smiley smile
