Waiting to book ceremony venue

Eliza, on August 9, 2019 at 2:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 3
Hi everyone! So I had to scrap my plans for my dream Cancun wedding because my family talked me out of it, so I’m scrambling for a new venue. I chose San Diego as my new destination wedding (I’m from Las Vegas) because it’s easier for many of my relatives to travel to. I found a hidden gem for a banquet hall to do a fancy beautiful reception for dirt cheap (for Cali standards anyway... $12k for 200 people, includes drapery and uplighting).

I’m still in the search for my perfect waterfront ceremony for Memorial Day next year. That limits me to bayfront hotels since the city of San Diego does not give permits for weddings in public parks on national holidays. I do have 2 hotels that have made offers and are willing to book right now, and I like them but don’t absolutely love them. I did discover one more hotel that has the perfect setting that’s everything I’m looking for, but for ceremonies only, they won’t book until 3-4 months out (to give priority to ceremony+reception bookings).

Is it worth taking the risk and holding out for the perfect place, or should I play it safe and stick to one of the ok ones that are ready to book now? Have any of you waited and got the venue or got burned for waiting?

It's unfortunate that you're in that situation but that would definitely be personal preference. That's a tough decision because 3-4 months out is definitely a close call just to end up not being able to get it (if that becomes the case). Have you checked anywhere else that you might end up loving besides the one you already found?

I live in San Diego and venues book up fairly fast during the spring and early summer for events. That's a tough call to make. I personally don't know if I would take the chance and wait. Especially if you are set on getting married over the holiday weekend.

Hi Eliza! I’m sorry that you had to change your Cancun plans but you seem super happy with your San Diego reception venue and that’s so great!

As the pps mentioned, this is a decision that only you and your SO can make together. It is very risky to hold out for a venue that you can only book 3/4 months in advance of your wedding date.

The two venues that you have sourced that you can book ASAP, what is it about them that you like and dislike? Have you gotten the chance to check out any photos of previous ceremonies held there so you can see what they look like with wedding decor?
