Waitstaff question

Jessica, on July 20, 2021 at 11:42 AM Posted in Planning 0 6
For my wedding I hired a caterer whose staff will be responsible for serving food and pouring water. So we need to hire a bartender for alcohol and waitstaff to pour non-alcoholic drinks. It was suggested to us to find 1 bartender and 1 server for soda/juice. I’m expecting probably 90 guests. What do you guys think? Does that sound ok?

We are expecting about 100 people and have 2 bartenders and 3 servers but all comes from the caterer and the food is buffet style

Typical guidance is 1 bartender for every 75 guests, so you would be stretching that. Also think about when guests first arrive at cocktail hr/reception when everyone wants a drink at the same time, that may lead to a really long line (I’ve waited 30min at a wedding and guests were not thrilled!). It does depend on your guests, if many don’t drink alcohol then you are fine, but otherwise I would definitely do 2 bartenders bc they can always pour non-alcoholic drinks too.

Oh ok, that's good to know. 17 of our guests will be children.

1 per 90 guests sounds like a nightmare for the waiter. I would hire 3 per 90 to lessen the workload

Ok, so maybe we’ll do at least 2 waiters to pour soda and juice. The waitstaff from the caterer will serve water. The bartender will be pouring wine or giving beer bottles. Right now I’m not sure if we’ll be able to have cocktails yet, but I hope so.

My venue recommended 1 bartender for every 70 guests. But our venue provides them. So we'll have 4 total at our wedding, 3 at the main bar and 1 at the smaller bar. Plus waitstaff does water for the tables.
