Wal-Mart Photo Studio for engagement photos?????

Antonette, on August 4, 2010 at 10:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

I do not want us to spend a lot of money for our engagement photos so I wanted to check out Wal-Mart Photo Studio. We have done a lot of family pictures there but not sure if they can do really nice pictures for wedding invites and the backgrounds. Have anyone try Wal-Mart for wedding related pictures?

Antonette...if you are looking to save on costs for your e-shoot, you should consider a student photographer. I dunno if you've seen my e-shoot pics..but I used a student photographer and I love how they came out. All she charged me for was expenses (gas, etc.) All you do is call your local university's photography department and have the faculty refer you to a student who may be interested. If you get lucky, you'll get good pictures out of the experience while helping a new budding photographer begin her/his career.

As for the wal-mart photoshoot..I'm sorry, I haven't tried them. My older sister gets her family pics taken there though and they always look nice. The only thing I would think about it is if they're done in the studio, it may be hard to fet candid shots. Dunno how important those are to you.

Does your photographer offer e-pic session included? There is other places here where teens get their senior pics that are great for wedding photos cause they have outdoor settings in their studio and porch props and stuff

@Antonette...you're welcome. I'd try that first before the studio..you don't want to deprive yourself of a real e-shoot if you relly want one. The student photographer route is the next best thing. Ask to see the student's work before you book. Mine only had a few shots to show me cus she was just starting out but I could tell from the shots that it would be worth a shot.

@Sheila..yup...she is quite talented..and she has gotten a lot of e-pic requests since she did mine..so I'm happy for her. In fact, she's also doing my b-shoot in Oct! Smiley smile Same rate since it will be her first shoot, but I have no doubt she'll do a good job.

We used Portrait Innovations. Do you have one of those near you? Or a similar place that you do your pics and get them the same day? We did engagement/family pics at this place last fall.

I didn't use my JCPenney session, but I think it may be a good deal.

These were done at JC Penny, they are not very unique and we will have a real session with a photographer. But we were getting Rhys' two year pics so we wanted some pics of ourself.

I worked in walmart portrait studios through college. MANY people came and did engagement photos. and once we even had a bride and groom come in after their ceremony, still in gown and tux to take wedding portraits!! NO joke. They were very young and just about 5 months later they came in to take portraits of their newborn....lol But yeah, go for it. If you don't like how they come out you've only spent $5 anyway!

@Mrs. Turner.... that's def a great idea... I will look into that when the Fall semester begins. We took e-pics already... but it was last winter and we did it indoors....I really like the outdoor e-pics I have seen

I say no. Your engagement photos can be so much more. Even if you can't afford a professional photographer, at least find somebody to take some pics of you guys at a meaningful location... Where he proposed or a common date night location. Hopefully you will look back at the photos years later and the good memories of this time in your life will come rushing back. I don't think the Wal Mart studio is the memory you will want. The photos will mean so much more than if you just get them done in a studio.

Even better, if you haven't picked your wedding photographer yet look for one that will give you a discount on engagement photos. It's a great time to "test drive" your photographer to see if you are all compatible and can trust him/her on your special day.

The attached photos are of a couple in the restaurant and the park outside where he actually proposed months earlier.

In my opinion, the photos will mean so much more if you take this extra step.

I second what Robert said. Since these are photos you will cherish for many years and probably show your grandchildren (specifically if they are on your invitations/announcement)- There are plenty of ppl on craigslist who are beginner photographers (look at samples price) or talk to your wedding photographer and see if you can work something out or as I said before a on another thread some wedding photographers will throw in an engagement shoot if you book with them at the first meeting- something to think about!! Smiley smile

I second what other photographers have said. This is simply too meaningful for you to take at your local Wal-Mart (no offense intended).

Most photographers will be willing to offer a discount or throw it in for free if you book them for your wedding.

Also, engagement pictures simply are not the same in a studio. Like @Robert said, take these pictures at either a beautiful or meaningful location (or both). These pictures will remain for many years to come.
