Walking on incline blasts calories

studentloansforlife, on April 23, 2017 at 12:17 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 43

So I have been following this YouTuber who is prepping for her wedding and noticed one of her slim down videos encouraged walking on the treadmill at a 15 incline with a speed of 3.0-3.3 for 45-50 minutes 5-6 times a week.

I was a bit skeptical but after a run/jog I decided to up the incline as much as I could while keeping a good pace (I only made it to 7 incline) but I was looking at the calories and they were melting off. My heart rate was around 155 too.

How did I not think of this sooner?! I am definitely adding in some incline training to my week and hopefully it helps firm up my legs and butt too.

Anyone else do incline stuff? Any tips?

I just tried this today for the first time and holy moly you were right! Burning calories left right & center!

Def got to alternate it with strength training and eat enough protein so that way I'm not losing muscle, just fat Smiley smile

I've done this in the past...just to make 5K's easier when racing.

I have arthritis and sometimes the pain travels up my back. I'm still trying to find the perfect workout but maybe I will try this at a smaller incline.

I walk on an incline because running is harder on my ankles. I went to the gym with a friend and she was so upset because she ran her heart out while I walked uphill, and then saw the calorie counter on my treadmill and realized I had actually burned more than her

Yeah I shaved off 1.5 minutes on my 5k today and I am hoping doing these inclines will help me survive the 12k with a big hill in a couple weeks.

Yes incline works wonders!! Burns calories and not to mention gets your ass into an amazing shape!! I alternate between treadmill and elliptical. On elliptical i typically do 20 incline at 3-7 resistance alternating resistance every 2 minutes for an hour

The key to inclines is to not hold on. 15 might be a lot for most people. You can work your way up to it.

There was a body building group who stressed the overall benefits of Incline walking for cardio work.

As KittyPrawn said, the key to incline is to not hold on and I doubt most people who aren't already in fantastic shape can do a level 15 incline without holding on.
