Wow, Shannon. Tell us how you really feel. I actually got the idea via e Martha stewart website: http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/good-things/wrapping-paper-table-runner

I've heard of it done with very high end wrapping paper, but I am not a fan. I prefer cloth, because people spill and the paper will get wet...

I think the texture wouldn't work. Like Meghan B said- people spill and paper will get soggy and such.

plus, how would you make the ends look pretty?

I think it's a good theoretical idea- but would work much better in a picture then in practice.

Lots of things that look good in magazines don't look so great in real life. I don't think this one's a keeper. Sorry.

I haven't heard of that before, it would be a good way to add some great patterns and colors to your table. I'd love to see it actually done.

Oh honey i could have been meaner. i left it open for an example of how it could be done. plus when you say wallpaper all i can think of is walpaper from 70's for some reasons. i think when it comes down it its texture and the way it lays wont really work.

The Martha Stewart pics I've seen were beautiful. I think it depends on the type of paper.

I checked out the link and it's wrapping paper that was used. Which I'm sure is much less durable than wallpaper. The idea is neat, practicality wise, I wouldn't go for it. Spilled beverage results in ruined runner/soggy paper, etc.

Yeah.... wallpaper wouldn't work.. most of it is prepasted and if it got wet, it w0ouod start to shrink/expand in the wet spots. (walpaper sizes itself when wet and either shrinks or expands.. I can't remember which). Gift wrap would technically work.. but I think I would save the idea for more casual parties. Even in the picture, you can tell that there is a texture and sheen difference from the table cloth to the table runner, which I think would be a lot more noticible in person. In the pictures they have the luxury of precisely controlling the light to make it look as good as possible. And they probably also bought the most expensive wrapping paper so it would be nice and thick... and wrapping paper gets expensive when you buy the great quality stuff! I think the idea is cute.. but not for a wedding. I'm glad you've changed your mind! haha

I think it's really cute if you can find the right one. Set it up in your own kitchen at home and see how it looks face to face with it and eat dinner with it, spill on it and see how it holds up. We could all be surprised by how well it might actually works. Keep us posted, I'd love to see how trial and error works on this idea.
