We are getting a Publix cake. Posted about Publix cakes a few months ago and got nothing but fantastic reviews.

    I personally can't stand walmart.

We were planning on getting a Publix cake, myy future sister-in-law had a Publix wedding cake and everybody loved it. However we found a local bakery that was the same price and decided to go that route but you can't go wrong with publix!

Ok, so I work at Walmart as Deli manager but I help decorate cakes as needed. Now, we have a fantastic cake decorator (not me). She's great. I would order a cake from her no problem. The issue with it is, Walmart expects their Cake decorators to crank out cakes like they're on an assembly line, they refuse to accept when their are too many cake orders too be completed, and the system of taking/keeping track of orders is iffy. I've seen people's wedding cake orders get lost, I've seen our CD overwhelmed with cakes so that orders aren't complete in time for pick up, etc etc etc. There are just so many risks work just the order it's self. On top of that, we are lucky to have our talented CD because she had previous experience. CDs at Walmart are just random people that get hired and 'trained' (a few weeks practice under the old CD IF they're lucky). You can't train skill or talent. So there's also the risk that your Walmart CD might not be a good or talented one at all.

All in all, I wouldn't risk it.

I've heard good things about Publix on WW although I had no idea what a Publix even was. I've also heard good things about Costco.

If they cost the same, I'd go with Publix, simply because I have never met a baker at Walmart that is excited about his/her job and wants to make the customer really happy. I would hope that Publix customer service is better. Do you have a farm fresh near you? That's where we were going to go before we found a little bakery in our area that gave us an even better price (I can't believe my wedding cake is $130 for 80 servings, with delivery and the exact design we wanted!). At Farm Fresh it would have cost $200 for a square cake with delivery included. Not sure if Publix or Walmart delivers and that was really important to me.

My sister had publix cupcakes at her wedding, they messed up the order and had them listed to be picked up rather than delivered. They ended up arriving a little late but they didn't charge due to the mistake

Publix. Wal-Mart cakes where I am are dry and the icing is way too sweet

We got our wedding cake and cupcakes from Publix. I have no regrets. I also ordered my anniversary cake from them as well. I love Publix's customer service and food in general. Good luck!

Call around and really price check, if you find a newer small bakery they may give you a fantastic price, better than the grocery store! Also if your willing to go with a square one, ask Publix if it would save you money. When I was going to go with a store one, a square one was $200 and a circle one the same size would have been at least $400.

Oh god I'd have to go with neither. Find a local baker.

I am not a huge fan of walmart cakes. They not bad, but I am with a PP as I have not met a baker that is/was excited about their job.

I was referred to Sam's Club and on another post the other brides were raving about it. I heard between $50 And $65 for a 3-tiered cake that feeds 100.

Publix. Are you near a Wegmans? I had a Wegmans cake at my shower 2 months ago and guests still talk about how much they liked it. It was seriously one of the moistest cakes I've ever had. I love to bake from scratch and am super picky about cake and I really enjoyed my Wegmans cake. I've had Walmart cakes and find them "meh"

Publix cakes are fine as long as they don't have a fruit filling(any of those I've had are terrible!) However, check with you smaller local bakeries first. I found one that tastes better and was way cheaper than publix even with delivery.

We're going with a Publix cake. We have been to other weddings with cakes from there that were delicious!
