Want to fire my day of coordinator

Leanne, on August 16, 2022 at 10:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

I am not please with my day of coordinator.. To my understanding (and was part of the proposal she gave me) I had 4 hours of planning leading up to the event. The main reason I hired her was because the event coordinator at my venue isn't very helpful and I thought an extra person the day of would be helpful. I have emailed her 3 times between July 20 and August 3 and got 0 response. I could not find her phone number so I reached out on Instagram asking if she had received my emails. She read it and didn't respond for 2 hours. She then responded saying she doesn't think she has received them and gave me a completely different email than we had originally corresponded with (there were two that she was using when I first booked her, and I included the two on the emails I sent). I then forwarded all the previous emails I sent to her to her "new" email and still no response.
My wedding is October 8. To me, these are red flags and I no longer want to work with her and I want my deposit back. Am I wrong for emailing her and explaining my concerns and asking for my deposit back?

I don’t think you’re wrong at all. I’m sorry that’s happening. I would be very frustrated too! However I would reach out to her through Instagram again and get a phone number so you can call her since emailing hasn’t worked.

Oh definitely tons of red flags here. I would absolutely find a new DOC, but I would not expect to get your deposit back whatsoever.

Edit: actually, read your contract and see if she has outlined any reasonable expectations clauses for you as far as response times go. That could be a leg to stand on

Even if she wasn't preforming the duties that were promised and completely ignoring me? I mean she isn't living up to her part of the contract.

The duties would have to be specifically mentioned in order for her to have violated her contract. For instance:

"vendor will be required to respond within 4-5 business days" versus "vendor will be required to respond within a reasonable time frame" are completely different. In the second option, she never stated what "reasonable time frame" actually means to her and she could claim that's a week, two weeks, three weeks, etc.

While we can both agree that her response time is completely unacceptable, not to mention the other shadyness going on here...if she never EXPLICITLY set a time frame, she has no contractual reason to refund you.

Yep, go read your contract carefully. If she's not breaching specific items in it, it's unlikely you'll get your deposit back.

I would say you probably won’t get your deposit back. That sucks. I hope everything works out but yeah lots of red flags. I wouldn’t let her anywhere near your wedding day
