Want to lose 90 lbs in 6 months...I NEED HELP!!!

SingleAndThankingGodIDidn'tMarryHim, on August 17, 2011 at 2:32 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 27

Alright guys...I want to lose 90 lbs by this coming Valentine's Day...which is 6 months away. There is one little problem tho...I don't have a work out buddy at this point and doing it by myself, I end up just going back to not working out and living life as I was before. I don't have the money to go to a guy or get a personal trainer, but I have some work out equipment at home, such as a treadmill, a rower, a bike, and an ab cruncher. Anyone got any ideas to lose that much weight (mostly baby weight mind you) and keep with it so that I can be the weight I want to be by my wedding date?

Honestly Sparkpeople.com is the best site for trying to lose weight. Its free..there are MANY groups with different age ranges you can join for support..as well as a bunch of groups for brides wanting to lose weight (like myself and you)..you get tons of support..make new friends..you can even find people in your area..they dont focus on just one diet or should I say new healthy lifestyle..they have many different ones like Weight Watchers...Low Carb..ect.. You can track your meals..get recipies..just alot of things on there to help you. It really has been a good support and help for me. Good luck!

Honestly, 90 pounds in 6 months is losing weight too fast. The most you can safely lose per week is 2 pounds, so that would put you down about 50 pounds by Valentine's Day. And it can be very hard to maintain a 2 pound per week weight loss. Good luck!! I wish you the best.

    Definitely check out Sparkpeople.com.

Six months...90 pounds? WHAT? Keep loss to what you can logically sustain - about a half a pound a week. Trust me, I'm on a healhty diet and I work out an hour a day - 90 in 6 months is crazy

I lost 50 pounds in 3 months a couple years back. I just started walking. But I walked and eventually started running 3 hours a day every day of the week. I am an all or nothing type of person. I didn't change my eating habits until I started seeing the weight fall off. It was really extreme. 90 in 6 months is not unrealistic if you can really commit to it but it is most likely to all come back once you cut back as it did for me. I gained all my weight back and then some!

My sister has lost about 75 lbs in the last year doing weight watchers- and she started running a little.

I really like 3fatchicks.com. Also a free website. I like it better than spark people, but i'm not a calorie counter, so it works for support.

You want to go for realistic weight lost. I've lost 60 pounds and still have about 25 to go. It's taken me a few years. That's just how my body is. Life gets in the way too. My advice? Pick an eating plan YOU can live with and start moving.

That's a lot of weight to lose in that amount of time - after the first two weeks, you shouldn't lose more than 2 lbs a week... it's not healthy!!! My FH and I both had a lot of weight to lose and we're not going to have lost it all by the wedding, but we agreed that they're life goals and we both want to live long happy lives with each other and with kids (hopefully) someday. So we'll continue working out and watching our diets after the wedding too. I've used livestrong.com to lose about 30 lbs out of the 40 I need to lose. I've found it's the most accurate one out there. I just need to keep to it! Smiley smile I think that's the hardest part. Some things that may help... put whatever website you're using to track as your homepage (and default for when you open a new tab) then it'll always be there to remind you. Also, come up with goals - not about the weight loss, but what you're going to do. Start small... for example, you'll work out for 30 minutes 3 times this week. (cont)

90 lbs in 6 months is not *necessarily* dangerous IMO... assuming that the OP actually has 90 pounds to lose without bringing herself into a dangerously low weight. It's always wise to check with a doctor, of course, and you should probably do that-- especially if you are starting from zero physical activity, or close to it.

However, I do think you may be setting yourself up for failure with such a goal... We see people on TV shows like the Biggest Loser lose wayyy more than that, BUT remember that they are VERY overweight to begin with, and the weight comes off much faster because of that. Also, they are basically dedicating 100% of their time and energy to weight loss, which is not something we can really replicate in the real world.

Be healthy, be reasonable... don't try anything too extreme because you will either hurt yourself, quit, or both. I also like Sparkpeople a lot for the support! An app called My Fitness Pal has a better food tracker than Sparkpeople though!

And give yourself a small reward as a result - is there a movie you've been wanting to see? Your favorite ice cream? (Food rewards are fine as long as you keep track of them and keep them small!) Don't cut anything entirely out of your diet... it's not good for long term success. As far as not having a work out buddy... that does make it tougher, but make working out part of your schedule. Make it something you can't skip... it's as important as any other appointment in your day. Smiley smile Lastly... plan ahead - I find the people who are most successful with diet changes and exercise plan what they're going to do ahead of time... even if it's just at the beginning of the day, but don't go into the kitchen at lunch time and not have a clue what you're going to have. It makes you a lot more likely to give in to temptation. Smiley smile (That's the one I'm still working on the most!) If you have ON DEMAND or something, use those exercises too to mix things up. Even just get outside and walk. GL!

That's too much weight to lose in too little time. If you do manage to lose that weight in 6 months, it can be potentially seriously dangerous to your health. Also, whatever methods you do lose won't be effective in the long run, and you'll put all that weight back on. Losing more than 1-2 pounds a weeks is unrealistic. I say through exercise and changing your diet (and your lifestyle), you can healthily lose about half of the 90 pounds.

2-3 lbs. a week is a good goal, although if you are making big changes, you may see more rapid weight loss at the beginning. Remember: you'll be thrilled that you lost 75 lb. if that's the goal you can accomplish. Good luck!

I agree that the amount is a little extreme!!! I will say that I have been using myfitnesspal on my droid (but you can also use in conjuction with their website- and it's FREE). It reccomends not to try to loose more than 2 pounds per week- because that is sustainable weight loss. You set up with your current weight and other data. It helps you track all the ins and outs for the day- calories eaten and calories burned with cardio. I will say it is quite accurate and I have reached my goal weight by following it for months. I highly recommend it. The more you use it, the easier it gets to track.

Definitely be aware that if you lose that much weight in that short of time you won't likely look as beautiful and healthy as you want to on your wedding day. You should aim for something a bit more reasonable...perhaps 60 pounds (10 pounds a month). I think you would look better and healther at (about) 60 pounds lost than 90 pounds in such a short amount of time. I have lost 61 since Jan. of this year and I started out with a great support system...but that is now gone. You can do it on your own even without a huge support system...that's what I'm doing with the help of a supportive FH. Good luck!

@Kara P. You can definetly lose 100lbs in 14 months, that's less than 2 lbs a week, definetly doable and sustainable, just get out and start exercising Now! AS for OP 90 lbs/ 6 months... I guess it would depend on how overweight you are now, my mom is quite a bit overweight and can easily drop 20lbs the first month she works out simply because of diet change and moderate exercise, so weight loss is pretty relative depending on your starting weight. Also keep in mind that you'd be pushing your dress shopping to very close to your wedding day with that kind of weight loss. I'd consult your doctor, a nutritionist and a personal trainer...

Im trying to lose thirty . ive had a set of twins almost three years ago and still trying to get that extra weight off. im not one to even try diet pills However my friend recommended oxyelite pro so i did my research and saw nothing but good reviews. ppl were losing 20 lbs in 8 weeks not even working out so imagine if they did. i started taking it for a week it really helps control your portions of food and makes you have energy, no crash,to get up and go do something so i take walks. i been drinking water like its going out of style and in one week i lost 4lbs, may just be water weight but nonetheless its seeming like its working. it helps with the need for motivation, since having twin toddlers i had hardly any, and just overall made me feel good. just an idea. walking isnt hard or even working out my problem was the motivation. so it all depends on you.

I would reccomend consulting your dr or nutritionist and get some type of a diet and excercise plan that works best for you. I am on Day 4 of operation "Get In The Dress" I refuse to order my dress the size that I am so I have to shed the weight. My son is 6 no exscuses at this point. FH has been extrememly helpful and motivating. Maybe your FH or someone in your family or bridal party would be willing to walk or excercise with you.

90 lbs in 6 months is suicide. you may loose 30 or maybe 40lbs. Just take it slow. Eat right and exercise.

90 lbs in 6 months is a little extreme, but if it's baby weight then it's not the same as just being overweight and wanting to lose fat since a lot of it will probably trim down naturally anyways since it has a lot to do with your water retention as a response to all of the hormonal changes that are taking place (seriously~when you think about how chubby your FINGERS get when you're pregnant...you KNOW that's not all fat)

plus...some of that extra weight might not be so bad (like boobage).

If you just had a baby, then I imagine your upper body curves might be pretty amazing in some places, so you might not have to lose all 90 lbs...

    Smiley smile

I do recommend walking (which will get you going in the right direction). I'm against atkins because it's just wayyy too unhealthy and can lead to a lot of heart problems (although I do know a lot of people who lost weight this way). If you want to do the low carb thing, then South Beach is probably a better way to go.
